Default Opinions about Rockford Fosgate amplified subwoofer.

I have a tC and been wanting to get a subwoofer without losing alot of trunk space. Yesterday at Best Buy, I found a Rockford Fosgate 8" amplified Subwoofer for $160. It is 250w max and 150w rms. The size of it seems about right for my taste. I was wanting to know if this is a good subwoofer or what. I am not looking for a booming sound. I just want a clean bass sound.

I have seen the Infinity basslink @ circuit city but have not heard it in a actual car. I've heard the factory subwoofer and it sounded pretty nice, but not the price. For the cost of the factory one, I figured I could get an aftermarket one that has more power for an equal or lesser price.

Thanks for any assistance.

yea I have 2 10s in my tc and they hit like 12s b/c of the airspace so 8" would work but 10" would be better.

depends on the music you listen to. 8" will be find for tight bass found in rock. But if you listen to techno or rap those long lows wont sound very good coming form an 8".

Those amplified subs are great for ease of use and for space. If you aren't considered with massive amounts of bass that overhwlems your highs, they work good.

yea two 10's should be good, if space is a issue, which is for most, the 10's in a sealed enclosure, then ported which is lil biger, or the super sized box bandpass, but you could always go custom depending on you cash flow. each has a different depends on you music taste... but a good quality single sub will work to if you not going for SPL and is good for most and you keep most of the hatch space..

First of all, I like to thank everyone that replied.

I am just wanting a good bass sound. I listen to rap sometimes but mostly everything else (except country). I got out of the loud bass music long time ago. I am wanting to replace the other factory speakers as well in order to achieve a nice sound. Nothing loud, just something to fill the void.

I ended up buying the Rockford Fosgate but did not install it. I think I will take it back wednesday and continue shopping. The most I want to spend is $350 for the sub, but more importantly I would still like to use the trunk as a trunk.

I am a Rockford fan and have alll rockford components, and have found that they put out the best quality for the money. My recommendation though is to look for some of the older Power Series amps on Ebay. Rockford sold out a bit to reach more people through stores such as Bestbuy. Their older amps definately pack the most power. When shoping try to check out the birth sheet which will tell you what the actuall RMS is on the amp. Most of the rockford amps are better than the label states. (though rockford is one of the few companies that advertise their RMS not their peak) my two rockfords are each sold as 400.4 but according to the testing, both perform over 550 at 13.8 volts. From there add an HE2 Sub and you'll enjoy the responsiveness and quality.
