Default Optima Battery

I am looking to get a Red Top Optima Battery for my xA and I need to know which model number to get. It is not listed on the Optima website... Is there a particular one that I should get, or just go by the physical size of the battery?

Thanks in advance

I would imagine you would go by physical size/cca's. I don't think there are too many different red tops, so it shouldn't be too hard. Good luck

I use a redtop in my xB, 925 cca's I believe. Works great. I've got a 1000 watt system in the back and no headlight dimming :-)

Yellow tops are deep cycle generally, meant as a second battery for simply powering extra accessories and equipment (like hydros or airbag setups, extreme car audio eqiopment, etc). They have adverse effects on your stock charging system when the vehicle is in use, thus giving the redtops more actual effectiveness in cars in which there is only one battery.

what SWF 05 tC says is true, if you use the yellow tops for a daily driven car there's a good chance that it won't last longer then one year without having to be replaced if you constantly push your charging system...

both yellow and red tops are awsome batteries but they are designed for different purposes...

If you call them up they'll be more than happy to explain it to ya :-). That's what made me decide to get my redtop. Unfortunately I don't have a direct link. I will however get you guys the part number for the battery I am using in the morning when I go out to the car.

Ok, let's say I get a red top, then how would I hook up a yellow as a back up?

I know absolutely zilch when its comes to something like this. Plus I need a cap on my 1k watt amp cuz my lights dim when the bass is deep and hard hitting.

i think you would use a battery isolator which will send a charge to both batteries, i also have the dimming problem tried a 1 farad cap and zilch.

A battery and alternator will do much more than a cap for the dimming problem. Actually the Optima took away from the dimming headlights that I had when I first put the system in. The cap can only recharge so fast.

Red Top (which is what I have) - I think there's a picture of when it was still 'newly installed' in my 'WWW' link below. Yellow Top (as said) is not meant for use as a normal everyday battery - it's a spendy battery to be replacing every so often. They also make the BLue Top (marine battery) that is a very deep cycle - some use it isolated as an 'assistant' in serious audio set-ups. I'm not convinced that it's of any advantage over Yellow though.

Anyhow - the battery (if Optima is your choice) you should at least start out with is the Red Top. There are others on the market though - if you're really looking becuase of A/V requirements, a good one is BatCap (they're local to me, sorta... short-ish drive) They make a hybrid battery/Capacitor type battery - a popular battery in SPL sound-offs

Thanks for the feedback. The reason I was going with a Red Top Optima is because my xA is my daily driver and I can get one from Costco for $100.

I guess as long as it is the proper dimentions it will work fine then?

Appreciate it.

Just a redtop. And I forgot to post the model of the battery this morning. I'll do that tonight.
