Default Pio XM tuner add??

So I am curious. I have one of the first Xbs in AZ. Polar White of course, 5sp, lots of goodies and getting better.

My question is on the XM radio. The OE headunit is a Pioneer and XM ready. I believe when added, the Scion XM tuner sits underneath the pass. front seat.. I am estimating that there is already a harness and plug under the seat waiting for the xm tuner. My guess is this is a standard Pio XM tuner. Has anyone tried to purchase the aftermarket $150.00 pioneer XM tuner and plug it in via the factory harness/location?

Thanks, Mark

No it wont work, and the cable it not yet run. I have completely stripped my car to see what needs dynamating, and I saw no such plug. the back of the indash radio has, If I remember right 4 plug inserts on it. 2 for the normal radiostuff, 1 for the Bazooka tube, and the other for the Xm tuner.

I think for the price the dealoer charges for the tuner box and install, you could get a new Pioneer radio and tuner.

Default Thanks Piston,

When you looked at the back of the radio what exactly did you see. How does the XM tuner plug in to the radio. Is it a multi pin connector or an RCA style connector.

Thanks, Mark

Hi, I also have a xm pioneer tuner box from my old car, and an xb. Unfortunately, Toyota is using a proprietary IP-Bus (the thing that connects your xm signal from the tuner box to the head unit). Therefore, i have been unable to connect my tuner box to the stock stereo **yet**. I am awaiting an adapter to convert the proprietary toyota IP-Bus on the stock to work with the pioneer IP-Bus. If you hear of one becoming available, please let me know... like hell i'm going to pay $500+ to get the factory installed XM option!!

What is this? Would this work, or do you need more?

The link is for a Pioneer brand XM antenna.
With the Pioneer tuner you can use any XM antenna. I used one made by Terk.
The way it works is : Satellite signal sends to antenna, antenna to tuner box, tuner box to head unit. The problem i have lies with getting the proper adapter to fit the wire from the tuner box to the stock head unit.

I am also in this dilema...no way I am dropping $480 for the toyota unit when the pioneer one is only $150...have you had any luck adapting the iP bus to the Toyota head unit?

Thanks!

I have the factory Xm radio on my Xb its worth all the money. I also have a portable unit on my Sequoia what a difference is sound the Scion is digital where the portable is analog. You can definitely hear the difference.

bryan -
I really have not put much effort forth in looking for the adapter... I'm sure if someone on this board mentioned the development of one though, they would have tons of sales!... hint hint!
