I believe the installers are not legally allowed to let you know you can because it is a safety hazard and they can be held liable. You shouldn't be watching DVDs while driving anyway. 99% of people can't talk on a cell phone and still drive safely. Watching tv is 100 times worse because your eyes are completely off the road.

Default might help. . .

From what I understand the AVIC-N2 uses a gyroscope inside the unit. Unfortunately, you'd have to tamper with the unit just to get inside, I wouldn't try it.

Well, that is what I was told about two seconds before I almost bought it.

Correct me if i am wrong but i think pioneer got wind of people defeating their safeguard and have now changed the design of their NAV to rely on the internal hardware to tell if the car is in motion or not. IE you'd need to modify the software or the actual circuit board instead of just moving a screw.

I dont know if the gyro thing is true i just put when in a bmw the other day and we just grounded the parking brake wire(light green) and you could still operate the nav controls that are normally locked unless parking brake is engaged. Try it the worst that happens is that it does not work. You will get a weird warning screen telling you that the parking brake wire is not connected properly

Yes, I was under the impression that the gyro thing was in the avic-d1 but i could be wrong
I didnt try it with a dvd video just with the navi so it very well could disable the video regardless of the brake or not, but it still will not hurt to try it

Apparently if you interupt the VSS wire and the sheilding on the navi ant. as well as ground the brake wire you can watch dvd and drive. I found this bypass written up on www.the12volt.com

Gyros detect acceleration, so that cant be the only way they detect it, unless any vibration causes it to trigger, which would be poor design. They may use a gyro as part of it.. but I am guessing they would just use the gps reciever to see if you are moving. So in the least you would have to have a switch to disconnect input to the gps and to send the correct signal to the park brake sensor.

***EDIT***
Looks like the guy above beat me to it But.... watching tv while driving is about the dumbest thing you could do and shows no common sense whatsoever. Studies have shown talking on a cell phone without a hands free is as disruptive as being drunk while driving, so just imagine watching a movie!!!!!! Not smart at all.

*sigh*

There ARE idiots out there who will watch videos while allegedly driving...

Thought I might pass along this one from my mother:

A few months ago she was in a friend's van on I-5 riding with those friends and two of their grandkids (about 8 and 10), when the kids got all excited and started yelling "Grandma! Look at what that guy is doing! Grandma! LOOK!"

My mum looked over and the guy in the next car, cruising down the Interstate at 70 or so, was watching a **** video on an in-dash unit...

Yeah, I'm SURE his mind was fully on traffic conditions and such... Uh-huh...

Guys, the interlocks are there for a reason, leave 'em.

One of my favorite things to do in Washington is to get a DVD and a tall cool 40oz and jump in my car and drive 100mph on the side walk.

While I agree there are many things that are a distraction while we drive, I don't think bashing and name calling is going to change anything.
Good luck though.

Bashing and name calling, eh?

Guess you are reading a totally different thread than the one I'm reading, Boom12V.
