Default poor reception-aftermarket unit

searched and checked out stickies etc but no answers. had a JVC unit installed and immediately reception sucked. went back and told installer that this is a 'powered' antenna (not up and down- but amplified). he doesn't seem to understand. doesn't translate to spanish i guess... but he keeps plugging a regular old antenna in and saying it works. i keep tellin him that he disconnected my amplified antenna somehow. help!!! how can i get the stock antenna hooked up right again. i know how to remove the dash and radio etc and i know approxamately where the antenna amplifier is. any help will be appreciated! also, he has the antenna plugged into a regular looking coaxial receptor on the rear of the JVC unit. i had heard that the stock antenna plugs in differently.

Try this.

If you are using an aftermarket harness for the aftermarket radio, there is a blue/white wire. Make sure this is connected to the blue/white wire off the radio harness OR what you can do, is connect the blue/white on the vehicle harness to red on the radio harness, that way, when even the accessory power is on, the amplified antenna will be powered.

Good luck and let me know how it worx

i kinda figured he was using that blue with white wire to signal the amp and i was right (and i told him at the time). connected the blue antenna wire to that one and it works! thanks much again guys!

blue to blue basically. cover comes off with 2 screws under the a/c *****. radio came out with 3 (back in with 4). about an hour and i'm old and blind! not deaf yet, tho! haven't met a decent installer in tucson yet. been here 19 years and tried 3 of 'em. 2 installs i did myself with zero problems.
