Project Scion-8: 8-track player in my xB!
I recently upgraded my car stereo and decided to add an 8-track player to my system along with the CD receiver.
I had a JCPenney car 8-track player from 1980, and used its mechanism for this project. Here's what I had to do...
(also notice remains of one of the stock door speakers in the background, I cut out the baskets to mount my front speakers)
There are some flaws in the ABS, mostly mistakes I made with the Dremel tool, but I think it came out pretty well overall. Depending on the 8-track, sound quality is pretty good. Some 8-tracks seem to be mastered poorly or have degraded over time, while others sound excellent, with good bass and treble response.
The CD receiver is a JVC KD-HDR1 so I have my choice of regular or high def AM/FM, CD, MP3 or 8-track...

Now, don't forget to take a #2 pencil with you so you can clean the heads with the eraser when it starts to sound muddy!
Awesome work.

Sorry about the Duran Duran. The reason for the Duran Duran is that my collection interest is in record club 8-tracks. They were only sold through Columbia and BMG in the 80s. Consequently they are newer than most other cartridges ( I think the last was Cloud 9 by George Harrison, 1988 ). I was actually a member of BMG until I got kicked out for returning too many tapes (it was a negative option club so you had to make sure to send back a card every month or else you'd get the tape of the month). Give me a break, I was 10 at the time. That's when I got Duran Duran, Hall and Oates and other 80s favorites.

I don't have any Skynyrd on 8-Track but here's some Jethro Tull, Grand Funk, AC/DC, etc...

Check out the factory 8-track storage pockets! One in each door!

Here's the video with AC/DC:

I'll keep you in mind the next time I head to my parents house. I have a box full of 8 tracks you can have.
My favorites then, ELO and Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon)
