Default Question about 06 HU

¡Hola!

I would like to know if those of you who know more about electronics and radios could help me out on this question. I know very little about this topic.

Aside of the obvious price different, what would be the contrasting factors between getting the upgrade of the ipod interface ($260) for an 2006 xA model as opposed to the standard radio and buying this from Crutchfield ($119)

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KzxpHxr...p?I=581PA10TOY?

Is it just the aesthetics of not having the adapter laying around the car? Or are there any other practical differences that I ignore?

Gracias for the input,

Omar

The ipod interface plug allows you to navigate through all your tracks in the ipod directly on your Scion radio. So basically you don't have to look at your ipod to see what you are listening to.

the crutchfield adapter allows you to do that as well

"it not only allows you to listen to all your favorite tunes through your car's speakers, it even lets you control song and playlist selections right from your radio."

nonetheless madhouse247 thanks for the reply LOL and being #1!

im seriously considering buying this.. are you absolutely sure that it displays the song names/titles/albums on the scion HU? the description just says you can control your playlists and songs, nothing about actually displaying it...

nevermind i found it in the review section on that website:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AQiNbsL...0TOY&id=review

it doesnt display album info, but you can have playlists and it will display a track number only, no song names and no iPod folder navigation...

i think im going to hold out until you can see that stuff. i doubt it will be long!

cool !!!!!

this is the type of feed back I am looking for:

so difference 1) Scion HU: show track, artist and album info the Crutchfield one DOES NOT.

this would be helpful for me to fidn out whether I can live with the cheap one or need to save for the Scion upgrade.

i dont even know yet if the 06 scion will support the naming conventions, im just assuming that the iPod's aftermarket support will have climbed to that level by then... even the bmw iPod systems only display a track number, no song name or anything. this crutchfield system you found is basically a direct copy of the bmw stuff looks like.

dont forget sound quality may vary between the 2 units. after markets products pretty much kick anything oem butt so i would probably look closer at the crutchfield one or shop around though because crutchfield is notoriously over priced on just about everything you can think of. try etronics.com i buy stuff through those guys all the time and never had a single problem

im starting to think for now a standard ol' rca jack would be nice... at least until i get something to control it from the HU..

im just upset because i used my iPod mini a lot during the schoolyear walking to and from class. now im driving around going to work, and i never use it.

Jon (jwa276),

Based on what the article that was posted on the general discution forum, the Scion interface should:

"This head unit integrates track, artist and album information from the iPod into a one-line scrolling display on the head unit's screen. "
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050708/laf011a.html?.v=2

Yeah, and you are correct this adapter does not display the song title.... However Crutchfild does sell an interface made by Pioneer that dysplays partial titles and artist, but I do not know if it works on any of the Scion HU models. Here is the link:

freeflowing,
I thought about that as well, however for both of the adapters that I have mentioned costumers have not complained about the sound quality.

I will do some research on etronics and see what they have to offer.

good finds!! very very good. im assuming the 06 HU will fit into an 05? cause im gonna be all over that sh*t!!! haha

for now though im planning on hooking up a std rca jack so i can plug the iPod in and just use the iPod itself to control stuff... kinda sucks but its damn cheap compared to others. is there an aux port for the satellite radio or do i need a separate connector?

Default re

hey there Jon,
how is the weekend treating you

Well I am no expert in electronics at all. While I love technology and futuristic things, ussually it takes a little time for me and e-gadgets to become friends. Perhaps that is why I am a ChE and not a EE or a Comp E. So take that into account for this comment.

Based on a previous thread individuals have commented that your ambition, that of swapping HUs, would not be possible. Here is the link.
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ght=2005++2006

It is more towards the middle of page 1 where they talk about this. However, whether such commentaries are veracious, I have no clue.

In contrast, I was able to recall another thread where a lad was able to switch his tc 05 HU for a 06 one.......

Ciao,
~Omar
