Default Question about indash monitors

Ok I've got an indash flip out monitor/dvd player. There is a wire that you have to hook into the parking brake before it will play video. Is there anyway around this? Before anyone says it. I know it's illegal to have a movie in view of the driver. Any help would be appreciated.

all it is is a grouding switch, wen the ebrake is one it sends a ground, so you can easily bypass that by grounding it, or if you wont you could wire it to a switch and ground that, works either way

Thanks for all the help, I actually have another question now.... my xb came with xm radio..... my question is how do I keep the xm radio with my new head unit? I noticed that there are two extra plugs on my harness after I hook up the aftermarket head unit. Whould those be for the xm? My new head unit is xm ready just need to figure out how to hook it up. Thanks for all the help i've had my xb now for about 6 hours....lol

You will need to buy a new tuner. One that goes with you HU brand. Will not work with dealer tuner. I just had to do the same thing when I got my Kenwood in-dash, I had to get the kenwood model tuner to use my Sirius.

Get the XM tuner for your headunit, and contact XM to transfer the service to your new head unit. There will be a serial number on channel 0. Give that to them. Your service should just switch (unless you have the lifetime service, which is only good for the original unit you activated).

Well if you promise not to laugh....lol It's a jensen wm9311. I know it's not the best but it hadall the features I needed and for a little over 400 couldn't beat the price. I don't know if maybe I got a defective unit becuase even when I hook it up to the parking brake switch it displays it's not legal to view a monitor while driving. I guess I will call there tech support or just take it back.

Well, at least you didn't get a DUAL. Oh, wait, I think Jensen makes DUAL.

I really, really hope you got the service plan (I assume you got it from Best Buy). If you didn't get it, go now and get it. You have 30 days after your purchase to get the service plan. If you don't have enough money for the service plan, sell your Jensen to get the money. That's how important the service plan is for the Jensen.

As far ast the e-brake wire, it is ground. When you ground it, it should work. If it doesn't, somethings not right with the ground. When you press the e-brake, the wire gets grounded. There is nothing else. Try it again.... AFTER you get the service plan. GET THE SERVICE PLAN!!

Try grounding it with a switch. See if that works. Thats what I did with my pioneer.

....lol I don't need a service plan. I got it from Wal-Mart ( for whom I work).... so there would be no problem taking it back.

if you tried to ground it and the area you grounded it to has paint on it, that might do it, you might not be getting a proper ground, try sanding a little big under the screw so that you get a good ground, thatz the only thing i can think of

yea, you can use a wire brush (the drill attachment one works wonders for me), if you don't have one, I would use a flat head screw driver. That would work too.

well I've tried every way to ground it. I've even tried hooking it into the ground for the stereo and that still didn't work.

Check in the owners manual about how to operate it. I've heard some DVD players requre you to "pulse" the wire (on, off, on). If they say press the brake, release it, and press it again, then you will need to ground the wire and install a switch. Then to watch dvd's, turn the switch on, off, on, and it should work.
