Default questions about the factory XM unit

Does the factory XM unit for $495 use the radio for the display or does it have it's own display?

I want to hook up the pioneer XM tuner to the Scion radio I don't want to pay $495 from the dealer,

I can get a pioneer tuner for 75-150 ebay or crutchfield + antenna. Does somebody have the wiring harness to match to the Scion, or could the wires be cut?

Carson Scion has the XM for $299 and they say + a cover, what is it covering? [I also presume this is NOT installed]

My local stereo guy will install what I bring to him, he said he does not have XMs compatible with the Scion [I want to keep theScion head unit] yet.

The Toyota XM unit uses the stock head unit for display. AFAIK, this unit is proprietary and is not compatible with any aftermarket XM gear. Someone may come with with a tricky interface adapter, but I haven't seen one yet.

The other thing that the stock head unit sorely needs is line-level inputs, but I have a feeling that these were intentionally omitted to discourage sales of aftermarket items. Why get XM if you can plug in an iPod?

well that is NOT the answer I wanted, it was however the answer I expected. :D

Well a couple of people have the XM for less than the $449 so if I can get it installed for less than $150 I will come out ahead. [mcgeorgeparts has it for $306]

It uses the radio. And it does not 'scroll' the info, which makes some artists hard to read.

Like someone else said, it's a deal where SCION got's it 's own thing going on. You might be able to rig something up...but I doubt it .

The cover is this form fitted carpet piece, that goes over the tuner, that sits under your passenger seat. It has velcro to keep it to the floor. And, the price you have there is not installed. (Funny thing is, I thought SCION had to quote a installed price with everything...)
I do know, that I paid something like $500, but that was installed, and frankly, it was worth it. This dude that did it, Gary at KING TOYOTA, he did it in about an hour, and did a great job hiding all the wires.

Keep the SCION head unit. And stay away from FM modulators. Crappy signal then.

It may cost you a few $$ to do it this way, but the resale value will go up, and your peace of mind should also go up. It did for me.

Does any one know if this would work with the stock Pioneer? Thanks
