Default Questions about re-wraping headliner. Please help

Im thinking about re-wraping my headliner. Ive got the fabric picked out, and im pretty sure i can get the headliner out pretty easily, but i do have a lot questions before i buy the fabric.

https://www.fabricdepot.com/index.ph...&pageid=121734

Im now looking into buying the fabric. The link to the fabric is above. How wide does it need to be in order to make it across the headliner. And once ive made sure its wide enough, how many yards long should i get it? Does the type of fabric really matter? Im looking into one that is 100% cotton and it says its width is 44/45", whatever that means. And, one last question. Anyone know where a how to is on the re-wraping the headliner.

Thanks...

The fabric will need to be at least 54" wide, and you will want around 4 yards, unless they offer half yards, then 3.5 will be plenty. The headliner is pretty easy to drop out; remove your rearview mirror, visors, pillars, grab handles, pop pins in the back, and pull down the weather stripping and she will come right down. There are some funky curves towards the front that you will want to make sure you have a flexible or stretchable fabric to work with for the best results. Make sure you go all out on the adhesive. Go to CarQuest and get the 3M Super Trim Adhesive, it will set you back almost $20 but you won't be redoing in in a week becaus it fell down. Can't wait to see the pics.

Being as though it's 100 percent cotton, it will probably be fine...t-shirt like maybe. Usually firmer fabrics like denim or something will be harder to work with.

how many cans of the 3M Super Trim Adhesive are needed?

Also, would i need to remove the old fabric or just put the new one over it?

I used felt for my headliner cause it is hard to find fabric that it wide enough.

Just put the new fabric over the old, and i used 2 cans.

I used the locktite brand from a local hobby lobby and it works great.

I used a plyable leather that cover pretty good; The tip for good coverage is the material. i have bene doing interior work for years and one thing i know...some material was not meant for car interiors.

Tips

-be sure when applying the glue if you use a thin material not to saturate the matrial or the headliner. the glue will show through and ruin your work.

- thickier material is alway better to use but be carefukl that it has a little room to stretch and play. Same goes for thin stuff but its eaier to recover from a mistake with thinner material.

- be sure your spray coverage of glue is even, again the excess might bleed through again ruining your work.

- 3m 90 spray adhesive is what I live by. DO NOT use 3m 77. It cant handle the heat generated in a car. will losse and ruin your work.

- nice thin coats on both sides is the best way to go.

If you need any help dude hit me up

Thanks to all above. I want to get the fabric but im not exactally sure its wide enough. I e-mailed the company about an order and am awaiting a response. Im still worried about the quality of the fabric. Any thoughts on if it will work or not?

Can you not get it locally? I wouldnt trust anything i couldnt see before buying. The problem being is that there are some contours of the headliner mainly up front that are hard to wrap if the material is not stretchy. you need a little room to be able to wrap around corners. unless the fabric you are buying doesnt have some give i wouldnt buy it. Trust me on this i bought 50 bucks worth or vinyl that didnt have any give , pretty much wasted money.

looks like the fabric they sell isn't wide enough

maybe if i order multiple then cut to fill the space. Will there be visible lines?

yea the seams will show for sure. a lot of people, including myself ripped out the stock headliner using something like denatured alcohol, but a few of my friends have sprayed over the stock one and its held just the same and its probably a little more forgiving with the seams. two large cans of heavy adhesive should do it. another good way is to dilute a glue compound and use a spray gun for even coats

Thanks everyone for the pics. I might end up going with suede instead b/c I know it will work. I want to do the pillars and the plastic frames around the rear windows near the trunk too. How much fabric is needed for those?

almost done asking questions
