RADAR/LASER DETECTORS - THE BEST/THE WORST HELP!
Hey well I'm looking into getting a radar/laser detector in the very near future and I figured that I could ask all the homies up on SL. I've never had one, but I talked to some rich **** Italian guy and he told me to get a VALENTINE.
I checked out EBAY and found that the Valentine's are running for like 4 bills. That's a little steep for me, does anybody know anything regarding radar detectors? Is it even worth me buying one? I just figured that if I could have that little extra jump on the POlice then it is definitely a plus. Well, thanks in advance for whoever replies!

my buddy can get them cheaper than that...he is a dealer for those.... i will check with him tonight and ask him how much he would charge for a valentine...they are very bad ___... we went to mississippi and we were haulin ___ the whole way and it always told us when there was a cop and never got pulled over for speeding..... we got pulled over because the cop had never seen a skyline before and wanted to check it out...NO joke!!! it was funny....
Unless you are a speed demon and drive at odd hours, save your money. I had one, but had so many false alarms I stopped paying attention. So I got a ticket anyway. Get a ticket with a detector and the cop will probably write it on the ticket and you lose some credibility if you take it to court. Even with a detector, you can still get busted you if don't pay attention or get paced.
If I go with the flow of traffic (usually 5 - 15 over) I don't have a problem. Keep it under 20 over to not get reckless driving and it'd be more worthwhile to pay an occassional $120 ticket than to worry about what your $400 detector is reading.

best investment i ever made....the escort 8500 x50 has saved me from many tickets. Once you get familiar with it you know whether or not the alarm is a cop and you have plenty of time to slow down.
If your decision is to get a radar detector, I would definitely check this out:

I would get a radar guided missile launcher instead, much more effective in SoCal.
Seriously though $400? Man you could get some really cool stuff that actually improves your car visual or performance wise instead of something that, well, might work and might not.
Or you could get your own personal stripper! For a little while anyway.
EDIT: Hey actually get your car all cleaned up and a nice camera, hire the stripper, get her all over your car and take some pics and post em back here! It's called giving back to the community!

I would never be without my Valentine. My friend has had his for about 9 years now, and it's been amazing the entire time. It gives you more warning that any other detector I've seen, and it never gives off false alarms.
A few grocery stores or gas stations use K band, which it will pick up, but most use X band, which the Valentine can be programed to ignore. The direction arrows are awesome. You can have it showing K ahead. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Okay, there he is, and as soon as you pass it shows to the side, and then behind once you do pass. Very accurate.
I've had my Valentine for about four years, and love it to death. I hated the Escort 7X00 I had, and it made me think all radar dectors were junk that gave you half a second warning and went off randomly to boot.
You can send you unit in to Valentine to get upgraded at any time, so you never have to buy a new one. My buddy with the nine year old model got a brand new one sent to him for $140.

i have a Valentine1 radar as well.. and i simply love it.
granted, with the manual xB, i dont like driving over 60 anymore. whenever i feel like doing a little spirited driving, it does kind of give me the reassurance that it's watching my back.
back when i was shopping around for a radar, one of my good friends had a escort passport. i decided to get the V1 instead. one day he took a road trip from Texas to California and asked to borrow my radar for the trip. when he came back, he ended up selling his passport and bought a V1 after seeing how much better it was.

For those that thinks its a waste for a radar dector, really depends on where you live. Where I live these cops are racist and poor as f... they pulled me over for 3 miles over, and one guy at court for 1 mile over. I spent about 400 just paying these tickets and i have points. The V1 is definetly what your looking for, if your neighborhood police are definelty on your ___.
DAYUM. Look what you V1 owners did, now I'm back in the debating process. Well, I don't have necessarily racist cops or something around the pad, I just drive too fast and have too many marks on the record, so I figure I should just get a radar detector. Well, Thanks again guys.
How much do the V1's cost though?
