Default Rear speakers same as front?

I'm fabbing up some speaker adapters from the patterns graciously furnished by tanakasan, prepping for the install of the upgraded system. I'm replacing the rear speakers, too-- will these adapters work for rear speakers as well as fronts? Same-same, or different, and if so, how?

Thanks!

Guess I didn't ask the right question...

So the stock rears are 5-1/4", and the fronts are 6-3/4"...

What I really need to know is if the bolt pattern for the adapters is the same front and rear... Kinda looks that way from the Search info and pics, but I can't find anything definitive... some threads say the same, others say different...

It'd be good if I could fab adapters beforehand, rather than having to do so in the middle of the process... If anybody knows the center to center dimension of the mounting holes for a rear speaker adapter, it'd be terrifically helpful. The fronts, for example, are an isosceles triangle, having two sides of 7-1/8", and a third of 6-1/2"...

All that diagram shows is the part number....NO SIZES! I've looked at that and unless you're going to buy the parts, it's not much help with anything else.

"So the stock rears are 5-1/4", and the fronts are 6-3/4"... " Also said that they were "5.5"...

OK, everytime someone asks this question someone jumps in with something different...the fronts are 6 3/4? I've never heard of that size speaker. Also said they were 5.5...never heard of those...

It's really annoying that new members get referred to threads that have different answers many of them completely different.

Doors are 6 1/2 and rears are 5 1/4's, dash speakers are 4's, yes?

Other threads to refer to that have many differing answers...

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...s%29&&start=25

Is there one (1) thread that has ALL the answers for the basics of the stock system by year? For example does the 2006.5 head unit have pre-outs? What is the ohm rating on the stock speakers? Etc....

Ok here are some answers for you

there are a couple of aftermarket speaker manufactures that manufacture a 6 3/4" speakers as well as 6.5's the 6.75 are mainly used in dodge, chrysler vehicles.
any premade adapter for the scion front door is for a 6.5 most common aftermarket components are 5.25 and 6.5. XB rear speakers are 5.25 stock with a little creativity and tools you can fit a 6.5 in the rear as well. as far as the new radios having pre amp outputs I do not know for sure but I doubt it.

If the 06 and 06.5 HU are the same (probably so) no pre outs.

AFAIK, the fronts are 6.5, the rears are 5.25 and the stock tweets are 3", but the opening can easily accept 4" faceplate x 3" dia magnet x 2" deep. My Vifas are that size.

Looks like I'm on my own, and that's OK. Once I figure it out, I'll post the info, send pics to tanakasan if he's interested in adding it to his collection...

I really don't like the idea of demolishing the stock speakers to mount aftermarket units. Oddly enough, custom sound systems don't necessarily add to the resale value, sometimes they detract from it... So I'm stashing all the OEM stuff for the day my box goes to somebody else... The only place I'll need to cut into the stock wiring is maybe to hook up the steering wheel controls...

I'm sure my wife thinks I'm completely nuts... first, I installed the TRD sport axleback muffler, and next a mountain of soundproofing... Today, I picked up the car from the dealer after they replaced the stock HU with one that doesn't change stations by itself, and somewhere over the next couple of weeks I'll (hopefully) replace the entire sound system...

There's a method to my madness, even if she hasn't figured it out...

x2 on not destroying the factory stuff.

Plus, it sounds better mounted solid and sealed off from the back waves.

All my mods are reversible and non destructive. Hey, these boxes may become collector's items in the future. Sure didn't make a lot of them. Do you know how hard it is to find interior panels for 70s muscle cars without holes in them from speakers?

Have you thought about no rear stage? Unless you have rear passengers a lot, its really focuses the image better. Disconnect them or fade them out and give it a try. Also loosens up some cash for higher quality front stage components.

Yeh, I considered it, tanakasan, but I often have rear passengers, particularly my 13 year old son & friends... at least they're not into hiphop, just rock...

Too late, anyway... I already have the CDT 6-1/2" component set for the front, and some of their 5-1/4" coaxials for the rear, a 5 channel alpine amp, and a 7" baby subwoofer from ED... The new HU should arrive later this week...

Maybe I am a little bit nuts, but I want it to sound sweet, and crisp, and smooth from any seat in the car. No matter what I do with the stock stuff, the bass is muddy, and the highs and midrange harsh and distorted as I turn it up...
