I don't have one on my xB, but looked into getting one. The local installer never heard of an xB, but without looking, said about $400 and they would need my boX for about 2 days. I don't want to be without mine that long.

Default Remote start

I have remote start on my MT xB. The stereo shop I work at will not put it on a straight drive due to legal issues. I have a Viper 800ESP with the remote start and two window modules to roll the windows up and down. I also have an 820 which allows me to call my car from anywhere and control any feature of the alarm.

Yeah, but when I call my car all I get is the answering machine.

The place i was gonna go to get a remote start told me that the xb was one of a few cars that there installer said that it was not possible to put one on. So i guess they were giving me a bunch of BS or they just didnt want my business.

Just wondering if anyone had any horror stories from using remote start extensivly.

Can the remote start unit really last the life of the vehicle?

I have a friend that used remote start for 2 years, and now his key won't even start the car. He needs to use remote start all the time.

BTW, I just recently got an Audiovox Prestige 996 installed, and so far im loving it. I know that the range isn't as far as the Viper but it was quite a bit cheaper and very comparable for my needs.

It also tells the inside temperature of the car and has a backlight on the pager...

300 installed... so i really have a feeling you're being jerked..

He put it in my tC within 3 hours

i did it in my 05 xb five speed...it wasnt too bad as well, just remember to never leave the car in gear or youll be needing some body work. For most shops, its against theyre policy to install remote start on any manual transmission vehicle, could you imagine a customer driving home late one night and leaving their car in gear then starting it the next day only to find their car hitting their garage door....not good..
i installed the viper 771 two way alarm with remote start in mine. took roughly two to three hours...pretty simple install, compared to other toyotas.

The XB is a freaking Toyota. people get nervouse when they are the 1st ones to work on a BRAND NEW car! I work at a stereo shop and i'll be installing my clifford matrix 3.5 (alarm, and remote start) with 2 window modules, and a sunroof module, with a tilt sensor. theres nothing to an alarm on our cars. Hell......... you don't even need a bypass module for them.

some may find this interesting.... some shops will base the price of off the make and model of the car. Lexus's have the same wiring colors as a toyota. its all pretty simallar.

some people are affraid to explore new cars... not me. i tore into it the second i got it home!

I just got my Viper 560XV installed today, and when I got off work my car wouldn't start. It was cold, and the car didn't turn over quick enough from the remote start, so I had to do it manually.

What gives? The whole reason I got it was to warm up the car when it's cold.

My co-worker got his remote start installed in his xB. It cost about $400 and they did it in one day. He found a shop that sell its and installs it. Plus this shop "Called KARBIZ" has installed literally hundreds of alarms on scions on Guam. (Since it's one of the dealer's preferred shops). He had no trouble with his remote start, plus his xB is Auto Trans.
I asked one of the service guys there at KARBIZ and told me that if I want one installed in my xB, I have to sign a waiver form of liablity since I got a 5sp man. trans. He told me he had an experience with one of his customer tryin to start the car with her remote, but the stick was in gear. It totaly messup the front bumper of her car, (a TC BTW). He did mention thought that there is a model comin up later this year specificly design for the manual transmission. I wish I knew what model or make that they installed in my freind's xB lol.

http://www.efunctional.com/cs-2016fm.html

Works great. I have started car from as far as 400'
It uses FM signal
I used below link to find the wire on 2006 xB.

It will take around 3 to 4 hours to install yourself.

Target has a great remote start on sale right now for $79. It took about 2 hours for me to put it in my '05 xB automatic. And I am a novice wire guy.

If you're really worried about installing yourself and are looking for somewhere that will do it. Best Buy's can be found all over the place and right now, they're installing a Viper remote starter for $199 total.

So have any of you had any issues with starting your car cold? I'm just wondering if this is a "common problem" or if I need to take it to the installer and have him adjust something. It seemed like the signal sent to the ignition wire was a little too short. I'm not sure if this is a setting, but it just sounded like it needed another second or two of ignition signal.

I installed mine a year ago and it is the best for cold mornings. No problems at all. It is even the cheap one off of Ebay. I paid 65 shipped. It is by Crimestopper.
