Default Replace the Heater Core by cutting the firewall?

Hi,
My Scion xB 2004, will usually get 80 Fahrenheit from his heater core. I know this from the past 4 years. I have install on the output (driver side) a cooking mini thermometer. We flush the interior core in August 2019. We use also a calcium/ rust removal for 5 minutes. Nothing changed in better. The time labor for removing the dashboard is calling for 6 good hours. So, my mechanic ask for $95 x 6 = $ 575. This is for just replacing the interior heater core. The cooling system on this car have the heater core in serial with the engine and front radiator. I tried to put a cardboard in the front of the bumper to get more heat.
Stopping the circulation of the air. This method will not work for me. The aluminum ends of the interior heater radiator have the size about 3/4". They are going from the top Engine room through the firewall to the dash board on passenger side.

Can one replace the heater core by cutting the firewall? In this way will be faster and not need to remove all the dash board.

Thank you.

Cutting the firewall would be a really bad idea since it's not only a structural part of the body but it's called a FIREwall for a reason.
