Default review of OBX shifter

I got the 'fatboy' chrome/carbonfiber OBX shifter.

I must say I am very dissapointed.

In pictures it is made to look like metal, but it seems to be mostly if not entirely just chrome painted plastic, light and cheap feeling.

though it is supposedly a SCION part, you have to stick in a PLASTIC adapter to make it fit on the scion shifter. The top then screws on, and every time you grab the thing you can feel the seam.

Then the bottom of the shifter doesn't mate well with the top of the shifter boot, and you can kinda see into it.

So I would not reccomend this, it is probably worth it to cought up more money for something that isn't as cheap feeling .

oh man way back in june when i test drove the xb one with the thin obx and one with the fatboy i was painfully disapointed. Amazingly the stock plastic is so much better :? . Then i even got the trd sport shifter with its little leatherette/fake cf **** (save us five bucks and drop that **** please) i even tried using it for awhile with the "i bought it so im gonna use it" mentality. miserable miserable. after two or three weeks that went back into the box. unfortunately the little chromey bit that holds up the shift boot doesn't fit on the sport shifter (again why?) so the boot either gets rolled up or banded on. kind of half ___ to me.

if anybody finds a perfect replacement **** for our interiors please tell me.

yeah, I have the fatboy carbon shift **** and I bought it with the car back in August and took it off the next week when I got the TRD shortshifter/****. I personally like the TRD ball because it doesn't get fiery hot in the sun and freezing cold in the morning. I can't even touch the OBX when it gets hot/cold and it feels really cheap and light. I've got like 4 new ***** in the glove but the best one is the TRD 4 me

The link below is of MGW's Mustang shift *****, which are 12mm and may fit the Scion, but the manufacturer needs to know what measurements the pitch of our threads is. Does anyone know if they are m12 x 1.75 and also m12 x 1.25? (If his ***** fit, I'm hoping he can modify it so that he can put a standard 5-speed pattern on top instead of the Mustang logo or maybe the Scion logo?)

http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang.html

Also, here's another cool shift **** that a company makes for MINIs and BMWs. It has a quick-release feature, which would be excellent so that in cold or hot weather, you could just pop off the **** and take it with you so it doesn't freeze or fry. (Of course, it would look funny bulging out of your front pocket, or rear pocket for that matter ) Unfortunately, that quick-release feature can't be adapted to our Scion's shift levers. The owner did say, though, that he can modify the **** so that it can be screwed onto our levers. He quoted a price of about $85.00 + $20.00 for engraving to machine it to our specs. If you're interested, tell him Dylan sent you.

If anyone has had good luck with any other ball-type shift *****, let us know. I was going to get the MOMO Race Airleather Shift **** (see link below) but have heard mixed reviews about the way MOMO shift ***** screw onto the shift lever with three allen-wrench screws rather than screwing onto the shift lever's threads. Seems like they could come loose or just not be positioned exactly right. Still, they look great.

Thanks,

Hmmm, the stock **** is conveniently shaped, textured for an easy grip, weighted to give a more "solid" feel and costs $0.00. What's ridiculous about that?

$50 for a metal **** covered in carbon fiber (woo woo!); now _that's_ ridiculous!

I just got the OBX FatBoy and I'm pretty disappointed. Like the original post says it doesn't even mate with the chrome rings so you can see inside it and even worse after you screw the top on you can still feel the metal ridge where the top goes on and EVEN WORSE, I cut my damn finger open on that ridge. Pretty sh$##@ty.
Scion relly needs to get their stuff together when recommending upgrades.
