Default Run whatcha' brung system?

OK, I know this is a huuuugggee stretch but does anyone have any experience with the JL Audio 6W0's?

I was thinking about using those in the rear speaker holes for a bit (and I do mean a bit) of bass for my xB.

I competed years ago (like 15 years ago) with a large system and now I have to get the most with what I got...which is a stock system that I may be able to add a piece or two. But I have to keep all my room in the back and it can't cost much to do (read:really not much).

Anyone done a low buck, basic upgrade to the stock system in an xB?

i'd get the eu700's from ED. they're made for this exact thing and they'll be way cheaper than a jl audio 6w0.

Mmmkay, this is what I found in the basement tonight. I have some old Alpine 6x9's that should still work fine. They had limited use in my last system. I'm thinking they will take some cutting to install. Anyone else done 6x9's in the rear?

4ohm, 50watt nominal, 100watt max, softdome tweets

thoughts?
DK
I'm looking around for an old PPI "cheater" 50watt amp and Phoenix Gold crossover/eq and 4 hard dome tweets I have somewhere...now where are they?

If budget is your main goal.., go used, but from someone you know, and something you hear first. Audio is worse than cars (minus Scions) as far as dropping price after delivery.

Also just found 1 (yes 1) MTX 3 1/2 mid...I was going to use it for a center channel but never got around to doing it...it's brand new still in box... but alas I only bought 1 at the time so I can't even use it now to replace the dash speakers...crap! I'm gonna keep digging in the closet but I think that amp/cross over are burried deep!

The "eD eDi 6000s v.2 System" is a direct drop-in? No mounting kit required? No extra rings to buy and I can use the stock wiring in the xB? It will work well enough with the stock HU?

I have experience with 6w0's. They are a great sub for small spaces. I can tell you that they would work MUCH better in a box than trying to squeeze them into the tiny stock location. You would be much better off building a small sealed box for a pair under the passenger front seat.

BTW, I guess I would have to consider my system low-buck. I spent less than 1k on everything and sounds pretty good.

I emailed JL Audio about using the 6w0s in the front doors as midbasses, and they very specifically explained that it was a bad idea, and that the 6w0s need enclosures. They said a better choice for midbass would be the 6.5" drivers from their component sets, which are available by special order at a JL dealer. If you wanted to use the 6w0s in the rear speaker locations, you're going to have to build a box behind them. However, the factory foam cubby area would be more than enough space for a tiny enclosure for 2 of them

^^^ yep, but if you're going to do that, it may make sense to just get one 10 and a subamp to drive it. much better sound, i'd think, and it wouldn't need replacement later.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get 1.5 cubic feet out of that cubby area for my 12w4

I'm thinking about removing the foam around the spare and using one of these to try and get more airspace...

Those aperiodic vents work really well, I have used them in the past (not Scanspeak but Dynaudio Variovents, same thing). Not only will they help in enclosure size but also flatten out your impedance curve. You can also buy them at Parts Express.

Is it true I have to have it vent to the outside of the car, or can I just put it somewhere on the enclosure where it's away from the subwoofer, and maybe against another surface? [Like maybe against the spare tire or extending into and behind the side panels of the trunk]
