Default Satellite Radio

I want to buy a Satellite radio for my xB. Only problem is, I don't want to spend the 500 dollars to buy one from Scion. I see I can get a set up for half that price, just wondering if it is difficult to hook up. Anybody else have done this?

Any local audio shop can get you one installed for quite bit less though I don't think it will play through your existing radio. It will be a seperate unit in the car.

I was wondering about that, because I have the SAT buttom on my stock radio. So I guess I don't understand how it could play without being installed or hooked up. Obviously I would want it playing throught the cars system and speakers.

The things one will do, trying to save 500 bucks. Wish Seattle radio wasn't so bad .....

well it would go through the car sound system it is just that you would have a seperate head unit in your car and the SAT button would continue to do nothing on your car head unit. There might be a way to hook it up to the back of the existing on but I would have to check like Car Toys or something about that. Not positive.

your welcome. I'll give my insight but a professional on that subject will be able to say for sure.

Dolemite..
consider a few options first. do you want to listen both @ home and on the road? then get a plug and play. with a lil ingenuity, you can find one that'll fit without being too bulky and eventually get the 30 ft. antenna cable through the lining of the car. also, if you want it direct into the stereo via an AUX input, there's a PIE adapter (see another thread about this).
Oh yeah, and finally.. Sirius. 'Enuff said.

I was looking online at some sites, like Outpost.com. They had the ones that I could play in the car, and if I got another dock, I could play at home. And that one was like a hundred and forty bucks. Not bad, if I can play it in both car and home. I will admit, I know very little about any of this stuff, just getting tired of Seattle radio, want a bigger variety. ....without a 500 price tag, or a bulky/difficult alternative.

Go to Crutchfield.com.
It's got some good information on installing it, docking kits for home/car/personal.. like the XAct can play Sirius at home and road for $150 kit, but you can plug the actual radio unit into a portable boombox or walkman-like device.
The only thing about the car is getting the antenna cable to the front from the back of the roof.. it's child's play after that.

All this talk about Satelite radio is making me want to convert even though I rarely listen to the radio.

I just started a longer commute, wanted some variety. Not getting any variety from Seattle radio. Thought it sounded cool, plus I have a gift certificate I haven't used yet. Just got an email from Scion, that if I didn't use the one they were selling, it would void my warranty on the radio component. Don't know if I want to spend 500 bucks on a radio.

Thats BS! In the event of something going wrong with your radio, they have to trace the problem to the other satellite radio. They cant just void it because its not scion product. It is a law that passed a few years back about things like this.

That is a pre-determined answer to any question they have about warranty. It is to save their butts but they have to determine the problem was caused by the Sat. radio hook-up. If it is a defect in the radio, TOyota MUST fix it.

I would assume that if you bought a PIE adapter (like the $50 one through Crutchfield or the $90 unit from other online stores), any defect in the radio is Toyota's problem, not whatever is connected. I agree with sheep.. it may be a generic computerized response for now (and consider getting Sirius too).
Dole - if yer sketchy about it, get a plug-and-play for about $150 to play over 88.1-88.7 FM freqs. No wiring with the radio problems until yer willing to say screw it and hardwire it.
