Default Scion's and Ipod's Please Help Me

Ok, i am well aware that my XA has an input jack in the center for an ipod hookup, but...you have to have an ipod stero which i didn't order from scion. Now, should i just get an FM transmitter to plug in, or is it worth getting a whole new stero.
Also is this just good for Apple Ipod's or can i hook up any mp3 player. help me out

From what I understand, there are 2 input jacks. 1 normal "aux-in", and an ipod specific one. If you choose NOT to get the ipod one, then you get the normal aux-in. The aux-in will allow the music from your ipod (or whatever mp3 player) through the car speakers. It simply won't charge your ipod or allow you to control the ipod through the stereo. Head to radio shack and get a stereo cable (3.5mm?). Plug one end into the aux-in, and the other to the headphone jack of your ipod. Voila. Tunes.

The basic radio has the input jack into which you plug any mp3 player. It can be an iPod, or some other brand of player, or it can even be some multipurpose Personal Digital Assistant that does mp3.

There is no reason to get an FM transmitter. Those are for people whose radios cannot process mp3 from an input jack. So the transmitter simply turns the mp3 into an FM broadcast which the radio can handle.

Great so i don't have to spend 30$ on an FM transmitter and get all static. All i do is plug my ipod into the jack and tune my radio to AUX. It's that simple? Awesome!
And this works with all kind of MP3 player's right, not just Apple Ipod?

Yes it works with anything that has a headphone jack. I plug my laptop into the same jack for music and movies.

That is right. I took my brother for a ride in my xB with standard radio. He pulled out his PDA with keypad and screen, said he had a lot of his photos and mp3 songs in it. I said plug it into the Aux port, and he was amazed to hear it playing in the car.

yeah, what'd be sweet is if they had an optional HU that had an LCD screen to watch your movies on (for those of us with an iPod video).

I don't understand what kind of cable you need to plug your ipod into the AUX jack? And also i tried pressing the AUX button on the stero with nothing hooked up and nothing happened, which made me wonder if it works? Does it only do something when there's an mps player inthere.
BTW, what does everyone have on their stero system, saying wise...
did anyone personalize it

Just need a cable with the headphone plug in type tip on both ends. I picked one up at the local Wally*World. My display says: LiL Blu MoNSTeR.

OH...forgot to say, the AUX is just that...an auxilliary input. Nothing in , nothing heard. Doesn't have to be an MP3 player, either. I use that input for my SIRIUS radio.

You need a stereo "mini" cable...it's the same kind of cable you would use to hook up a set of computer speakers to your computer. You could get one of these at any electronics store.

1.You plug one end of the mini cable into the headphone (output) jack of your mp3 player.

2.The other end of the mini cable goes into the "aux" input jack in your center console (located near your e-brake)

3.To listen to your mp3 player through the "aux" input, you must press the "AUX" function on your stereo.

4. enjoy....note: to change songs you need to use the actual mp3 player, not the stereo. (only the iPod stereo can control the iPod controls through the stereo)

To clarify. If you get the iPod compatible radio you are going to have two jacks.

One looks like (and is) a headphone mini-plug. You get a male to male stereo plug like whats on the end of your headphones and you can plug in any MP3 player or stereo. Unfortunately you will get no navigation from the car's radio.

The other port is an iPod connector (has multiple pins in there). You connect your iPod and it says "iPod connected" and you can then use your car radio to navigate through folders and tracks. Seems really cool but I don't think I want an iPod...

Another cool feature of this radio is you can change the color of the display all kinds of cool colors. However the control dials and buttons remain amber

Do you guys know if our rides come prewired for the iPod Jack if we didnt get the option (you know, to where we can just get the jack & plug a wire in the back of the headunit that is already in place)? Can the iPod option be added on to the standard head units?

I don't have the iPod compatible stereo installed yet, but I can say that so far having an FM transmitter (that I bought for my previous car, a 99 ford escort) for my xB SUCKS. It's a pain in the butt because I have to put the car in reverse before I can plug it in to the cig lighter then i have to remove it blah blah blah... and the static from it over the speakers is pretty bad, too... -_- I'm so VERY excited about the iPod compatible stereo!!!!!

'06 is prewired for both iPod AND AUX. Standard HU gets AUX, optional iPod HU gets both.

No, AFAIK (and I don't know jack!) it can't be added to previous years/non-iPod HU.

FM x-mitters are NFG. Everyone tries one...just so easy...but the sound quality sucks. A hard wired FM modulator is (slightly) better.

It needs two male ends. A wire w/ a male tip on each side. That just splits the signal for two people to hook up their heaphones to one sterio jack. So that product wont work.
You can go to your local electronics store and find one. It will allow you to plug into the AUX jack.

I have a 2004 xB and I don't see anything around the ebrake handle other than the "illumination" button for the interior glow lights.

anybody ?
