Default Security & Alarm Info ?

hey

i went to a local dealership a while back, but they werent too helpful with my questions.

i was wondering what kind of alarm system the xB comes equipped with, and if it comes with an imobolizer.

also with the keyless entry, can you unlook all doors with one click of the button?

any info would be great.

The dealership I bought from wanted to sell a KARR?? alarm for $750. Keyless entry takes two pulses to unlock all doors. Just one unlocks the driver side door. I have also noticed that if I unlock the doors but don't open them in time the car re-locks the doors.

I have a question for anyone. At the dealership they had the alarm already installed. I told them I didn't want it. When I was ready to leave with my new ride they remembered that I didn't want the alarm and called the "alarm guy". It took him about 5 minutes to remove the alarm. Is it just a module that pops in somewhere?

i have a question to add....
what do you suggest i do about an alarm? should i have the factory installed or go with an aftermarket that is much better and has remote start? it seems the factory price on the alarm is steep for what it is......

Yeah, I would hold out for the aftermarket alarm. Dollar for dollar you will get a much better alarm.

I guess it's kind of attractive to have it all rolled into your monthly payment but I don't think it's worth it.

The Factory alarm and Dealership installed alarms are different things. The factory alarm is good for the financing and insurance rate drop. Thats why I got it. It has glass break and shock sensor, very basic and it's cheap in payments.

A Dealership installed alarm is a no go. Trust me they splice wires as cheaply as can be, the dealership itself rarely installs them, it's usually a mobile installer that does all the dealerships in the area. And generally the quality of the alarm and the install is horrible.

A good aftermarket alarm installed by a reputable company is the best way to go. You'll get a better install, better product, and generally a safer car. It will cost the most though. Don't take it to a discount alarm place, thats the same as the dealership installed alarms. They'll do more harm than good to your car.

A reputable place will solder all connections and loom the wires so they look factory and are hidden. Ask to see an installed alarm, if the wires going to the horn are routed haphazardly around the engie bay, or are exposed, just leave that place and find a better company.

I cannot tell you how many alarms that i've seen in my years that were falling down under neath the dash of cars, that had burnt through wires because they didn't have a fuse, or just plain died for no other reason that bad install. Quite often those discount places will sell the same exact alarm as the better places, but will do such a bad install that they can charge $50-$150 less.

Respect your car. Factory or a good aftermarket.

Hello there! I have the factory alarm (called Scion Security) and am happy with it. It was a no-brainer seeing as my 1987 Suzuki Samurai only had my trusty Club for theft deterrance and no alarm to speak of.

On another note, would anyone be interested in a add on to the factory installed Scion Security to have remote start? I have a great installer thinking about a plug and play DIY item to make available for the xB...

Another cool feature of the keyless entry, when you use it to lock your doors, the power unlock buttons in the car don't respond. Good way to keep someone from pushing the button with a hanger...

I like the auto relocking feature - in case I accidentally squeeze the Unlock in my pocket or something.

That's nice! I wish those clear color key fobs were available when I got my xB, but my Scion Security didn't get me a clear one, just basic black. The clear red one is pretty cool...I've seen these on display at Longo as an accessory you can buy...I think these are smaller too.

I would love one like the Lexus has with the fob integrated into the key itself, that would be real nice and I would pay extra for that

aimeeXa...did you get one of these clear fancy key fob jobbers?

What they normally do is just unplug the brain and leave all the wiring intact. If you can find out what brand and model# that alarm they took out you can get the same one and just plug it in....it'll save you a grip!! With the price of a factory alarm I got my self an Audiovox APS-996 Remote Start with 2way remote and Window module and still saved $$$

man were those ugly remotes ...good thing we don't carry those! I don't believe audiovox makes that series anymore. I think they're just sticking with prestige and pursuits.
