Default Sirius

I finally broke down and decided to get the parts for Sirius. I got the Kenwood Tuner and the Kenwood CX-SR10 antenna. I am going to install it myself. My question is how is the antenna installed? I assume a hole has to be drilled in your roof and the wires run down?

Also does anyone think the $500 lifetime subscription is worth it? It seems like it would but that is a bit of change to dish out on the spot especially since I have already put about $4000 into my car. Wish they could charge me like 50 bucks a month.

What car do you have? In the tC, the factory XM antenna sttaches with adhesive behind the regular antenna and the wires come out of the trunk.

Yes, unless they go out of business.

No! Don't drill a hole in the roof. I have the same Kenwood setup and there is no drilling required. Run the wire from the receiver under the headliner. The wire will then go through the gap at the top of the rear door and you mount the antenna with the magnet. This assumes you have an xB. But, even if you do not, I have never seen an installation that requires drilling.

Thanks. I realized this after I examined the pictures more closetly. I thought the wire coming from the antenna was rather large like 8 guage. After looking at it closer I realized it was rather thing and could be mounted as you stated. by the way I do have the XB.

With GPS, you can just mount the antena to your front dash. ANyone tried this with XM or Sirus?

I put up a Sirius antenna in the dash of my box. It worked very well actually with a few cutouts at times. I used it for a demo in my car for a weekend sale once and just left it in for the week.

Still not sure if I should go with the lifetime package. I guess I could purchase it monthly for liek 2 months and see if I like it and if I do I could then purchase the lifetime.

I purchased a year, i like the idea of getting it all paid at once, so i can just forget about it for a while, plus at 120 bucks for a year, $10 sounds better than 12.99 per month... and is the same as XM for those who like to use XMs cheaper price as an advantage...

I'd also be a little worried about what will happen to those lifetime subscribers when Sirius adds video functionality. It seems like recieiving TV would give them cause to up the price.... will it be a 'free' addition, or are they going to charge a premium monthly charge then for everyone... or just the lifetime subscribers? Something to think about if you are interested in that feature in the future...

I'm thinking the same thing as Naoki. Who wants a lifetime subscripting to any technology? Imagine paying for a lifetime subscription to columbiahouse music club for eight track tapes. Technology changes so freakin fast that unless you are confident that you will be staying with Sirius for five or six years for sure, then its not a great idea IMO. I got the $9.95/month deal. I had to pay one full year in advance, but a decent deal for $40 savings and not hassling with a monthly bill. If you think about it over the coarse of five years you will save approximately $200 with the lifetime plan. This assumes $9.95 first year and then $12.99 after that (although it might go up with inflation). If you divide the $200 by five you get the same $40 savings per year, but for five years. It's up to you. If you think that there will be no other emerging technologies you want to switch to over the next five years (or more)then perhaps its the way to go, but for $40 a year I'd want some more flexibility. JM2C.

almost forgot don't go with the lifetime because it is not lifetime....if something happens to your receiver damage, theft, etc there goes your lifetime script. i called along time ago and that's what they said you just pay for like 3 yrs and get it for 9.99 /mo by then they will have some more interesting things like streaming video
later

I have a the same system for sale if anyone is interested. Tuner, antenna, & RF modulator included. Everything is in new condition. I had it in my Accord for about a year but never mounted the antenna so the adhesive is still intact. $75 takes it.

Its a great system but cant find the room for it in the xB.
