Default some thing ive wondered

ive got a few questions on wiring subs...

1. how do you wire multiple amps to a single sub? (think solo X)
2. if an amp isnt 1ohm stable but is wired into it what will happen?
3. this is more of an opinion Q. whats better to have dual 2 or 4 ohm woofers?
4. can someone explain how to wire 3 subs to 2 amps?
5. same question but one amp this time. ^^

thanks for the help. im just trying to learn as much as possible about car audio.

1. multiple voice coils... one amp to VC1, another amp to VC2.
2. you will cause the amp to overheat and burn up....
3. depends on the amp....and how many woofers....( 1 woofer with an amp that is 1ohm stable, id go with dual 2 wired to make a 1ohm load.)
4. think in terms of no1. (this really only works if they are DVC.(dual voice coils) all VC1's to amp 1 all VC2 to amp two.)
5. its all in how you wire them series or parallel. you can manipulate the final ohms the amp will'see'.

if you have three woofers with 3ohm DVC....
if you series the DVCs on each woofer (series adds the ohms) each woofer now is a 6ohm load....
now if you parallel all three together...(divide the load ) you will end up at a 1.5 ohm load....

only one comment from me regarding wiring a single DVC sub to 2 amps......you'll want to "cris-cross" the wiring so that each amp is helping both voice coils....amp #1 has the positive of voice coil #1 and negative of voice coil #2...amp #2 has negative of voice coil #1 and positive of voice coil #2......that way you ensure both voice coils are moving at the same time. if you wire one amp per voice coil, the amps won't be pushing the exact same power to the voice coils and that's damaging to them...

ok see i was told to think of it this way: one amp will be the "pos" amp and the other will be the "neg" but ur way sounds smarter.

One thing about 1 ohm vs 2 vs 4. If going for all out SPL you can go as low as you want for max output. But the lower the ohm, the more stress on the amp. That leads to less "control" and more distortion(which you prolly won't hear).

for the kicker amps there is a cable you connect to the amps that makes them run exactly the same so that it doesnt get damaged i know my 1200.1 has it ive seen it done on some solo x's at car shows and it works good

can u explain that a little more? how does a cable prevent damage? if that were the case then all amps would have this magic cable.

i know that JL amps use a regulated power source so that no matter what ohm load its at u stil get max power, thats cool cuz that means the more voltage u have the more power u can squeeze.

Actually JL's desgn being regulated means that it will not make LESS or MORE power depending on the voltage.

You are partially right with the ohm load. They will make rated power at any ohm load between 2-8 ohms depending on whether it is bridged or not. This is nice in a way that it is extremely flexible, but it also means that it won't "double" the power like most other amps at different ohm loads.
