Speaker Wire Length
Hey, Im gonna be installing some Infinity components in the front of my tc, and i was planning to run wires from both the speaker and the tweeter to the rear(trunk) where i want to connect them to the crossover.
Now, the reason that i want to put the crossover in the back is part show, although theyre not THAT attractive. And mainly because it has two "modes" a flat EQ and what they call
"contour" EQ. Since im not sure what ill want, and whether ill want to change or not i wanted to move them to the rear.
These are the facts:
12Gauge Streetwires UC12 speaker wires running seperately from the tweeter and the driver(2 cables) to the crossover in the rear.
The crossover should be insanely close to its amp, im talking max 1 foot.
Each of the crossovers (2) will recieve 100 Watts
- Do you think that i will lose alot of quality by runniing a seperate cable from tweet and driver all the way to the crossover? The diff with the other setup would be a relatively short wire from the tweeter and driver to the crossover, and then the really long length back to the amps...
What do you think is best??
Thanks, Ibiza

1. Are you running these speakers from the stock radio? If so the length is going to be about 13 feet each running then neatly along the running boards and having a foot or so on each end for mess ups.
2. The difference in clarity for having the crossovers closer to the amp than the speakers probably won't be noticable at all. I have done it a few time and infact on many proffesionall installs they will showcase the crossovers in the rear with thier amps.

With 12 ga wire, you could run them anywhere you want with no problem.
I wired a big karate dojo with 12ga. The longest run of over 100 feet worked just as well as the shortest run of 10 feet. Both speakers measured the same input current with a test tone and the same sound intensity on a dB meter.
