Default stamped emblem

Does anyone know how to create that kind of stamped emblem look that people usually stamp things such as logos into various materials. Usually I see things pressed into leather.

On leather stuff, I think they usually put the letters behind the material and stretch it. Mike (rolex87?) has something like that on his audio setup, maybe he can give more info.

Kinda hard to see in the pic, down along the bottom...

It's usually a hard foam you put behind the material, you can cut the foam into any shape you want and stick it to the surface you are wrapping. Then ou stretch your material over it and you have a 3D looking shape or logo. This is most often seen when being used with tweed...as all of you fellow mini-truckers already know.

Where would I get this foam stuff? I will probably try and contact that one guy to see how he did it. Do you think it will work with the material on the scion? I am thinking no but I never have done it before so I really don't know.

If you're talking about Opr8r, I don't think he's actually done it. Atleast, I don't think that's an xB on that post. M@ (Opr8r) finds incredibly cool stuff from Japan and posts it up here for us to see and get ideas (I'm assuming :D )

Anyways, as for the foam stuff. I'm sure you can find it at Hobby Lobby or any other craft store.

And as for how you do it...it looks like you remove the headliner from the vehicle, then pull the headliner material from the backing, being careful not to tear the actual (rigid) headliner part.
Then you take your foam, cut whatever design you like, glue the design to your headliner board and let that set up.
Then take your material (what you will actually see as the headliner) and glue it to the headliner board using a roller to stetch out the material.
Let it all dry out and then re-install your new headliner.

This is an EXTREMLEY loose description and NOBODY here is responsible for what damage you may potentially do to your headliner, or whatever you may be doing this to.

The best way, if you are creatively inept, would be to have an upholstery place do it for you.

On a side note, if you plan to install a stereo or just want a quieter ride, you could apply sound deadner to your roof at this time

Here is a link to a lot of materials and the foam:

BTW if you stretch it TOO tight, you will smush the foam and it will look like booty.

LOL Thanks for the loose description. It atleast gives me an idea. I may have to do some more research before I dig my hands into it. I was actually looking to do it to my headrests but Not sure that will be possible.
