Stereo Install Help
I just ordered a new head unit (avic-d1) and being as it is winter i am not going to undergo my full install at this time ie subs, custom box, amp rack....
Instead i am just going to install the head unit and xm nav unit. My question is, can i still use the bazooka tube from the dealer with teh new head unit, or is there some fancy adapter i need, or what will i need??
i realize i should just do it all at once, but its really cold and i am just not sure that midsemester i can spend the time cutting the car apart to make it all come together.
thanks

The factory is a harness from the dealer so your going to have to convert it to a plain and simple RCA. I think, I dont know why else the dealer would be selling install wiring for the bazookas if it wasnt something special. Well i guess if they were just RCA's it would be a total rip, but bonus for you.
I don't know from personal experience but from the bits and pieces I've heard, the sub input is tapped from the rear speaker(s). If that is true you can just wire in the new radio and everything will continue working as it does now.
If no one corrects me on this, I suggest installing your new head unit and see if it works. If it doesn't you still have the radio in and you can work on the sub when you have time.

the factory tube has a toyota harness PTS20-52040-WH that plugs into the oem head and runs to the tube. The harness basically is a y adapter that plugs into the speaker plug on the head to the car.
You will have simply make the connections to a remote power turn on and power on as well as line out from the head. Should be relatively easy.
