stock preouts
Do the stock decks have preouts? It seems like such a shame to rip out a perfectly good deck just to get some decent bass. Especially since the replacement for me would probably be a comparable aftermarket deck w/preouts. It definitely precludes me from getting the six disk CD, I imagine that wouldn't have pre-outs either. But I'm jumping ahead of myself, maybe they do have a preout. Pleasssseee.
this is a question that has been answered quite a bit here. The answer is no. Sorry, but you can get some line output converters. They tap into your speaker wires to create an rca jack. you can get them at circuit city or best buy audio shop or any local audio install shop.
bummer, crappy speaker level input bass, or a new deck. For all the talk of giving you what you want (like no cassette, which is a good thing, do they even sell cassettes anymore?? besides at truck stops...) you'd think they could have spent the extra $0.23 and added preouts. I imagine they have an agreement with Pioneer which precludes them from doing so though, so pioneer can sell you a new deck. bummer.
For the xA and xB they are I think...
As for the high level inputs... You can live with it... It's probably better than spending 300 - 400 on a new deck when it's not totally needed...
If you're serious about your audio, then you probably should have a deck picked out before you even get your car :D So that is a non issue for someone like me... (btw, do you know the going rate of stock stereos online especially one with MP3 capabilities?)
So infact, you might spend only 100 - 200 on a new deck if you unload your stocker EARLY...
Having a line converter isn't too bad, and it'll save you money... Once again, if you're not too serious about audio, then you probably can live with the difference... If you have a VCR running RCA into your TV or receiver at home, thats what I'm talking about... S-Video / Component are the shiet, but then not everyone puts one of those into the TV or receiver :D

this may seem dumb but, as in pre outs you mean the rca outs so u can plug it into a amp/speakers. when i first got my civic, i pretty much drove it from the dealer ship straight to circuit city to get a cd player installed. a few months later i got 2 pioneer 12"s and a bazooka amp and installed it my self, so your saying i might not be able to use the amp and 12"s with the stock head unit the tc comes with? i could probly live with out bass for a while if thats the case, dont wanna rip out a brand new head unit :?
RCA = Preouts
As for not being able to use them... You can get a line converter thats been talked about in radio shack... It converts your FR FL RR RL channels into RCA signals...
Brand new decks are nice, for me to poop on then sell on eBay $$...

Well the REAL question is WHY don't they have it stock? Even stock decks with external powered subs (like the bazooka option) all run off line converters or high level input... WTH is up with that?
Bah, I'll just make plans to rip that thing out and stick it in my Corolla and get me a new head unit. I figure it should be cool since the tC has that cover for the radio so anyone walking by won't see any aftermarket goodnes out in the open.
I think we all know that the bazooka has it's own built-in amp. But from what source do you know that the deck has a pre-out?
(BTW pre-out meaning that it's the signal right from the source, before picking up the inevitable distortion from going through the amplifier that powers the speakers, as you would get from high level (i.e. speaker level) inputs. The signal is pre-amplification.)

The sub output is a line out .

I personally have a deck bought back in 2000... A 99 model that is ampless... The only thing it has to offer ARE preouts :D Keep the deck running cooler than if it had an amp... I suggest anyone who is going to upgrade anways to take a look at it... Having a deck that don't have an amp inside means fewer things can go wrong and cooler running temps...
