Default Stock radio, added sub less bass on cds than on radio...

Hey guys, Just had a 10" alpine type s sub installed in my TC yesterday... The radio has sick bass, but when I try my cds they are lacking. Umm these same cds use to thump with my old car on a 12" sub, and the radio didn't have much bass... Does this sound right to anyone? Still need to try some more cds, but kinda dissapointed at this point since i rarely listen to the radio...

You'll probably have to set your "EQ's" differently for radio and CD.....

Hmm... I've played around with the bass, feel, hear, ect settings on the stock hu.. Is that what your talking about? I mean I can put the bass setting on "hear" and 0 for bass and it blows cds that have "feel" and bass +5 out of the water...

Maybe your radio stations boost the bass level and it's not something you can control. My CDs are good on Bass 5 and SSP Hear (Feel adds too much bass).

Perhaps... only tried a couple cds out so far, i'll have to experiment some more.... I was wondering if music can be optimized for a 10" sub or a 12" and maybe that is the dealo...

Yeah, I know i'm pretty clueless but you gotta start learning somewhere right?

Music isn't usually optimized for a speaker, the system is usually optimized to the car and the owner's personal preference. Generally larger speakers reproduce lower bass frequencies better. So that may be some of the difference you are noticing.

Also, radio is bad about boosting bass levels when they broadcast as mentioned above. A lot of the stations around Charlotte, NC do it. That is partially why I listen to Sirius all the time - that and the local programming sucks.

Default hmmmm....

Ok, the sub is not working on any cds at all... The only bass I get off cds is the stock speakers in the front and back... The radio how-ever bumps the sub nice.... I didn't install the amp or sub myself so I'm going to go back and see what they say... Weird though right? Why would my radio put out a signal to the sub and not my cds?

Depending on how they wired it, it would make a difference. My setup was done by leeching off the rear right speaker and connecting that to the amp. Keep us updated!

what is your remote line connected to?

if it's connected to "antenna" or something it would only work with the radio

it needs to be connected to the constant +12v for the radio, or else it won't be on when u need it to.

If the music is only coming through the sub with the radio on but not with cd's.....that means you have tapped the power anteanna lead for your remote wire instead of an amp turn on lead....the HU will only put out power to the power anteanna lead during radio broadcast listening. I've done this before on accident, though, not in my Scion....

Honestly I have no clue what anything is connected to.... I'm really hoping it's just some connection though and not something wrong with the deck and how it reads discs/decodes signals or whatever...

*shrugs*

we must have posted within seconds of eachother....

the remote DOES NOT need 12v+ constant......then your amp would be pulling power from your battery all the time.....it needs 12v+ SWITCHED.....meaning when the car turns on, the remote line pulls power and tells the amp to power up....

Is this an easy fix? Do I have to pull out the deck to access the remote wire?

or should I just bring it back and make them fix it?

yeah totoally... but if it was just like one lead wire or something in the back of the sub that needed to be changed i'd feel like a dick strolling in there haha.... but yeah it obviously is over my head... Glad to hear it sounds like a simple wiring problem to you guys...

Thanks for the help/ quick responses

I'll let you know how it goes...

Well i dropped my car off, they are working on it now... They basically rephrased what you had said.... So sounds like it's an easy fix and I should have it back in a couple hours (dropped it on lunch break)....

Aww yeah....

Sounds like they wired a power antenna remote to the amp turn on lead.

***EDIT****
Oops, looks like this was already brought up
