Default Subs in spare tire storage

I have had a large box with two planet audio 12 subs in my hatch since I got my tC in June... I need the space for other things occasionally and I was wondering... could I remove the spare tire and such and just cut out holes large enough to accomidate the subs in the cover for the spare tire and mount them facing upwards?

1. AAA Or
2. Fix a Flat

And, you're probably going to need to fiberglass them in or something (need to find some way to seal the enclosure)

It will not be a simple installation. That cover is not large enough to hold to 12s. The dimensions of the floor at cover level is approximately 38" wide X 21" deep. The spare cover is only a little over half the width dimension so it's not physically possible to just cut two holes and drop them in. Not to mention it would sound like crap.

I'm building a new box right now. I was going to flush it all around with the side and remove the storage bin but I was concerned about space too. So now I'm building a box that will still look nice but that I can just disconnect the wires and slide it out when I need that space. Parts Express actually sells large guage power connectors for just this purpose. I was also thinking about getting a pair of 5" or 6" subs to put in the rear sides to compensate whenever the big boys were out.

i always thought the bose sub offered on the RSX was a pretty cool concept. Don't know how it sounds but it actually mounts on the spare and acts to tie the spare down as well as give you bass
