Default Subwoofer install question

I am using a line output converter to connect my amp to one 12 inch subwoofer. Since I am only using one sub, do I only tap into one of the rear speaker leads from the stock head unit? I tried tapping into both rear speakers but the sub is still not working. However, I do get power from my amp. Any help would be appreaciated.

i have the same set up..(till i get a new hu). i tapped in all rear speaker leads (hooked up to corresponding connectors on converter)and adjusted the gains to maximum. hooked up the rca's and remote for the amp and hooked the amp to battery, speaker wires to the sub and viola you got power to your sub

khaye, your gains shouldn't be at maximum unless your amp can match the converter output level with it's input level selector(gain)....the gain isn't a volume control....having the output gains on the converter mismatched from the gains on the amplifier will cause clipping and you will hear it as distortion or bottoming out....

One... two... really doesn't matter. I did this with just one rear speaker and it works fine. Of course, I'm working with a mono amp and one 12" sub. I doubt any artist is silly enough to make a song with their lows on one channel only, so I think I'm pretty safe.

Can you test the RCA's on something else to see where the chain fails?

jcook...look up tech section on wiring colors

wallyb...no rca jacks... buy a line outout converter or check your amp and see if you could tap into the rear speaker

unless you're going to use a good quality(higher priced) converter, save you money and use the hi-level inputs on your amp.....

what kind of line output converters you guys runnin? Ive found some but they dont seem to have enough wattage allowance. one site had ones from 2-9 watts. . . not alot. and i havent found any. any help would be much appreciated. Also, price is not an issue. . . well, if its the same price as a head unit, no.
