Soundbox diaphram compresses air in the hollow tonearm which leads to a rudimentary horn. No electricity needed, not in playback, and not in the original recording studio. The singers jammed sounds right into a recording horn. You analogue guys remember how that used to be, with vinyl and grooves. With this pup you change the needle after every play because it blunts down in a hurry- it hones its point to fit the groove so you don't want to re-use a blunt needle on the next record.
