Default Sylvania Silverstar

Has anyone tried the Sylvania Silverstar head light bulbs in thier XB yet? If so, how do you like them and are they worth the cost? Do they run at a higher wattage, or stock wattage. I had some high output bulbs in my old truck that melted the switch and I don't want that to happen again. Any insight would be great.

i run em.
they are def more of a pure white, no blue tint just really white.
when i was into hid, the hid guys said they actually thought these were better than a oem bulb. usually any tint takes away from brightness.

i give then 2 thumbs up.

Ok, two last questions on them. What bulb number for the XB, and how much of a pain are they to install?

LOLS yea, but they have a good return policy. I buy tools, use em and return em. Or you can actually use their tools while on their premises.

Silverstars suck mine burned out within 3 months of use. I have eurodesignz bulbs now and they are not only brighter but so far have lasted longer than the silverstars.

Yup nice and white. But if you are looking for more light you may want to take a look at the HIR2 bulbs. They put out 1850 lumens at 55 watts.

It's proven that Silverstars have a much shorter life than regular halogen bulbs. Some other bulbs you might want to look into are Philips Vision Plus, you'll have to find them on eBay and have them shipped from overseas (usually about $30 a pair shipped) because they do not sell them in the states. But they put out a very true white light, and the coverage area is extended between 10 and 30 extra meters. They are not DOT legal but they are also not blinding so your chances of actually getting pulled over are about 1 in every 5 million.

Other than that, EuroDezigns bulbs are also better at producing a brighter light, and lasting longer than Silverstars.

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a bit new to headlights and stuff, but I read about the HID and how you require all this harness stuff, but for the Silverstars, is it basically remove the old bulbs and replace with these ones? Or is there more work than that?

Thanks.

He's right. The Vision Plus bulbs are one of the best H4 bulbs out there. I used them in my Mazda and my brother had them in his Tundra and we've both gotten excellent results. The length of the beam is remarkable. The Osram Silverstars (which you all know is different from the Sylvania Silverstars) are just as good as the Vision Plus bulbsm, hell it might even be better. Both are spendy, but well worth it. They don't have the short life span the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs do, either. Also, someone mentioned HIR2 bulbs. HIR2 bulbs won't work in place of H4s, the bulb base is different.

Yup, just swap em. HID is totally different from Halogen. For the Silverstars, you're correct when you say that all you have to do is swap out the bulbs. HID, as you know, requires completely new equipment in order to work properly, such as HID ballasts, HID bulbs and most importantly HID headlamps.

Where did you order those Vision Plus bulbs from? Some of the places I see on ebay say they don't ship out of the UK. I need someplace that ships to the US and will accept payment in US dollars. Anyone know somewhere?

Silverstars suck! Everybody is right about that is all white and no other color emitting from the bulb. I think I am so use to being in Japan for 4 yrs and the headlights are brighter when you change the bulbs with higher voltage output.

The bulbs are really easy to change.

The ebay seller "performancebulbs" stocks these bulbs and will ship to the US. You can even use paypal as payment, and it will automatically convert US dollars into proper payment form for you. I bought my Vision Plus bulbs from him and they only ended up being $27.xx shipped from the UK. Took about a week to get here.
