If someone knows their way around electronics, and can install stereo equipment easily, how hard is it to install an alarm and remote start? I want to buy one off of Ebay cause it would be several hundred dollars cheaper....
What do you think?

not that hard just make sure you connect the correct wires to the car wires ( starter acc 1 & 2 ign wires) i have always ran a 10 ga wire from the battery to the remote start module (fused of course) to get a good sourse of power i really never liked the small ga wire in the ign harness to run the alarm
any other help just ask

Have you ever installed a Compustar alarm? that is what I plan on getting. I like the Spread spectrum one. I would have won it a few minutes ago but I got caught up in the Grammys and I missed the auction ending. Damn....
I just want to make sure I can hook it up right, and not mess anything up. How bout programming the remote. Is that hard?

I have remote start and after you turn it on. you have to disarm your alarm to get in the car. Then you must insert the key to the on postition and step on the brake. Then you can start driving. If you do it in any other order the car will turn off. This is to prevent someone from hopping in your car and taking off while it is on.
that feature is like the turbo timers from blitz and other manufacturs thats a nice feature it will prolong the enging ina way to let it "rest" after a hard drive ie turbo cars
as far as manual i have a code sure start lx on my tracker i just found the clutch cut switch cliped the wires (i think the switch is normally open till you push the clutch in then it closes and contact i made--and start) but i learned 3 times is a charm that i leav it out of gear nothing was damaged
if you want to put in a micro switch you can just tie it to the hood shut down switch ie when you take it to a dealer or fix it shop it will not acativate -- the micro switch can be put on the gear slector ( kinda hard to explain with out showing pics -- of which i have none but i have done the switch) or tie in the e brake same type of concept but put a normally closed switch
there are so many variables to make it start and not start its your option on waht to do
mine just leave it out of gear and pull the e brake
one cheap way is put a sticker on your dash telling you leave out of gear and pull e break till you get used to it !!!!
as far as the compustar install --- no i have not done one of those but they are all about the same as far as wiring --- its just the features that are different
hase any one done a walk through on a remote starter if not ill be happy to when i get mine with pics too

I've always had manual transmission vehicles so I never got used to not pulling the ebrake in a car,
although I did for get once in my 75`yota after driving my grand dad's 78 GMC auto on my farm all day.
But on my talon I've had a turbo timer forever so the ebrake comes on as soon as I stop, and it is never in gear.
You just have to unlearn the poor habit you have aquired from driving automatic.
BTW please put on your ebrake even in an automatic. after a few years, especially in hilly country the pawl can become worn and it cna slip out of park.
That would be really really bad.
It happened to me in the GMC several times.
