Default ? for those that installed a head unit in the xB storage bin

I installed my new clarion deck in the storage bin under the stock head unit location. I got the idea from this forum and it's a great idea. It was a little more involved than I figured and the only issue I have is that the radio hits the air duct which is right behind the storage bin location. Not a big deal but I will probably grind down the coin holder on the fold down door for more clearance so I can close it with the faceplate installed.

Anyway, my question is, how did you guys secure the headunit in that location? Right now I have just a pressure fit and it's secure but can still be moved about with little effort. I need to secure it for insurance reasons so i'm looking for some ideas.

I used the metal install sleeve that comes with the head unit. I marked where 4 of those bending flaps were on the cubby hole, and then used a drill bit to make a hole in the cubby. Then you can bend the flaps in the sleeve up, which then locks the head unit in place.

Good idea, I thought about doing this but was pressed for time the day I installed it. Is there any risk of damaging the soft vent behind the storage bin? My clarion does press against it slightly.

Cool, thanks... A tip for anyone that's going to do this. A dremel with a small drill bit will make short work of the plastic you need to remove that's part of the dash behind the small bin. Use it like a rotozip.

Like this? Use back straps, and no need to grind anything!

Looks good. I had to grind down the coin holder or whatever that protrusion is on the pocket door. My Clarion deck is probably longer than your Alpine. How did you get power to your monitor?

I got power for the monitor from the stereo harness. You have a constant 12v and a switched 12v right there to run a relay off of. Prolly dont even need a relay, but I just wanted to put one in there.

Are you concerned about voltage spikes due to the unregulated power? What kind of relay.. specs or whatever, it might be somehing I'd like to do too.

No, not really concerned. No reason really, I have just always used relays when hooking up multiple items to one power source..just habbit I guess.

Since I cut the back housing off tapped it to the rest of it with some electrical and took the housing sleeve and bent the tabs up so it catches good
