Trunk/Hatch Install?

Trunk/Hatch Install?
Hey everyone, I am planning to make the right half of my tC's storage compartment area in the trunk plexiglass so its like a "fish tank" effect; people can see whats under; like a display area. My original plan was to cut the existing trunk mat and then ly a plexi sheet under it to expose the areas that i cut out of the existing liner.
Now, ive reconsidered and no longer consider cutting the stock mat the best choice. Id rather make a new liner, and cut that up...
My question: How do i make/ and what do i use to make a new liner that is thin, relatively stiff, and "stock looking". Almost like an identical one that i can just cut up?
Also, id like it to be the same carpet material and the same color..does anyone know the "street" name for the color...is it charcoal?
Thanks for your help, Ibiza

You might be able to make it out of 1/4 mdf or plywood. Get a 4 x 8 sheet of either, then lay your existing mat down over it and trace it. Cut out with a jig saw.
Then to make the hinged portion like it is stock, I suppose you could cut it and add hinges, or just cut it and make it a seperate piece.
Then see if you can find some charcoal colored carpet to match your new cover. I haven't found any carpet yet that is exactly the color, but I will keep a lookout.
