I did the "search" and couldn't find exactly what I wanted to know.
So the questions I have are:
Has anyone upgraded the alternator on their xB yet? If so, which model did you get, where, and what was the general pricing?
Does anyone know where to find an upgraded alternator for the xB?
I am running 1,600+ watts in my stereo system and am running video also.
Also, for those who have replaced their batteries, what did you replace it with?
ANY info would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!

Well, I did some researching.
The OEM alternator has an 80 amp output. The max draw on both of my amps is 202 amps. I don't turn my stereo up anymore than halfway, so even then, the draw is prolly around 100 amps.
So, I'm going w/ the yellow top OPTIMA, and 2 farad cap on the 1k watt amp.
Either way, I'm still overloading the alternator and making it work harder than it should.
Another option is a second battery, but again the weak link is the alternator.
So, I'm hoping to find a rewind, hopefully 120 amp output, for the OEM case that will bolt right in. I don't want to mess w/ rewiring the car and fabbing new alternator brackets, and having to worry about pulley sizes.
Not bad for a poser, eh?

any alternator shop can wind more wire into the alternator (as you mention), it's a 'gimmee' task for any good shop - basic stuff. And cheaper that a replacement - AND you know it will fit right --- since it is the original casing 'n all....
Stinger does make an alternator for the xb, it would be nice, I am about to have mine rewound. The shop said they should be able to get me around 170. The would be nice, would help out with my sub amp that draws at full power almost 150 amps.
Brad If I I get high numbers like that would you be interested in having yours done as well?

I found a nice aftermarket universal that has 130 amp output. I just hgave to figure out what brackets and pulley are needed.
Thanks Keith!
Jason, Oh, that sounds promising! Thanks!
GLN305, did they say how much? Thanks!

Yeah, I have 3-7 inch screens, 1-4 inch screen one 15 inch drop down, a 400 watt power convertor, dvd player, HU, 600 watt amp and 1k watt amp. So I definitely need a higher output alternator. More to be added next year.

Thus the need to find to find at least a 120 amp alternator.
