Default Upgraded dash speakers in xB!!!

Thanks to TJandBoxcarwillie, I started the upgrade of my OE 6 disk CD changer. I removed the stock dash speakers and replaced them with Pioneer TS-G1040R 2-ways. Took a total of about 1 hour to install. Even removed the harness plug from the stock speakers and retrofitted them to the Pioneers. Also added 200hz bass blockers to help prevent blow out. Here's a comparison pic of the stockers and the new Pioneer speakers:

Here's a pic of the speaker installed in the dash. Two of the mounting tabs have to be bent out of the way or removed competely.

This is a highly recommended upgrade both for ease of installation and improvement in sound quality. Next upgrade will be some Pioneer 6.5" 4 ways for the doors.

well i put a set of infinity in mine and i can diffintly tell the difference, but you have to add a amp to the speakers to get the whole effect.

You can tell the diference. The mids and highs are more pronounced. Just compare the new speakers with the stockers. The stockers are barely bigger than the tweeters in the Pioneers. There will be more improvement when the door speakers are upgraded to the 6.5" 4 ways.

No cutting required. Just carefully pry up the grill with a screwdriver, remove and replace. They are 4" speakers.

The Pioneer speakers are 4 ohm and have I think a 90 spl rating, meaning they are efficient. I used 200hz bass blockers on them too.

I got the 5.25's surplus for 17.00 shipped and the 6.75's for 32.00 shipped. all surplus off ebay , two sets from buyessex and one set from bargainland liquidation. i'd reccomend buyessex cuz they test all products before listing.

Hey, thanks for the props!!! Thanks!

No problems, then, with the install? I told you those were easy. And, I have been rolling around with the whole deal now for some time, and have seen no need for any amp upgrade; the stock HU is only 160 watts, and to be honest, I think that breaks down to 15 to 20 watts a speaker...I am not sure on the exact wattage per speaker.

Hmm. 20watts X 6...yeah, I think that is about right. Again, could be wrong. The dash ones he got (and I have), are rated at 100 Watts, and there should be no way to blow those; the doors (and I used them in the rear as well), are rated at 250 watts.

Oh, and use the bass blockers he talks about for the dash ones.

Hope it all works out for you!
