Well I wanted to do this for a while now because of the night shows and to show off all my suspension mods.

Varad released a very cool suspension lighting kit but I decided to take it to the next level and do the VIP spot lighting as well. The pic’s below show beginning install, I started with 3 kits now I have 6 kits with a total of 24 LED emitters at 1 watt each. Varad has optional add-on emitters from what I read 4 more can be added to each controller which means I could possibly have 48 of these little suckers. Oh yeah and the very cool thing is that they can be networked together to one remote.

My overall goal is to have a “Rolling on Thunder” look. I was going to use very expensive police style strobes to accomplish this, but thanks to Varad I can get the same result in less cost better install and to top it of no need for those long undercar lighting sticks that fall off get broken etc.







This last shot of the engine bay was shot with no flash and no external light this pic gives it no justice (need to practice more night photography) it looks really cool like a halo around it.

looks good man!! I am in the works on doing the same setup too, but not in the engine bay, just under the car. Loks real clean, props to you man. :D

 

Awesome. What does it look like with the car on the ground? Are the lights like spotlights or are the more diffused? How much do those kits cost?

 

Looking hot! I've found if you put a digital camera on a tripod and turn on "best shot selector" you can get pretty nice lighting pictures.

It depends where you locate them... I have 4 about 6" from the ground like a flood spot light then I am installing 3 to fill the gaps so when I run the "Breathe" mode it looks evenly diffused and when I run Strobe or Chase mode it looks like a Vegas street sign

Price I seen was like around a $150 I think but don't hold me to it!! www.crutchfield.com, www.cardomain.com and www.thezeb.com are some online places to get Varad product they are not listed on their site so you might have to call to see if they have the part number in their system.

i saw ur kit at Sound Advice show... and man..it made me want a set real bad.

i wanna setup around my wheel wells ..and some inside my engine bay. Hmm.. looks like a weekend project.

Just wanted to update with some new install pic's after initial install I didn't like all the exposed heat sink and wire so I made a template for the emitter drilled the holes and mounted them from the back side not 100% stealth but a much cleaner looking install. I chose to pop rivet them in for a smoother look. One thing that amazed me is how durable these emitters are I have dropped these things several times with no apparent damage…

The last pic is one of the unfinished rear emitter brackets I made; they mount between the bottom of the rear bumper core and the edge of the bumper lip. I am getting them powder coated and will update with more of the finished pics. This makes 20 emitters I have installed I have 4 more to install and possibly an additional 4 more on the way… woot woot

 

OH CIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's very nice/clean install dave. 24!?! Varad suspension LEDs!?! Mna, I just wanted 8 myself. Looks like its time to take out the cold cathodes out of the engine bay. I'M NOT WORTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Oh yeah brad I forgot to mention the spot light I will be towing behind the box.. oh that was supposed to be a Secret Mod oops!!!

No Seriously peeps these LED lights are so cool, so if you are thinking about undercar, incar, suspension lighting by a set of these to play with first... I swear it will change your mind on how to light up your car

Oh yeah "Don't look into the LED emitter" Ouch "Snow Blind" doesn't even come close!!!

Looks pretty hot, but I'm not so keen on the price tag for these.

 

I have checked on these 1 watt LED's and it appears Varad's pricing seems to be reasonable. Plus the high quality circuit boards, heat sinks, cabling and performance I think it's worth the price for as much light as they can put out over conventional LED's IMO it is most definitely worth it. :D

 

Either way, we need night pics! Time to bust out the tripod and get us some shots.

 

Here are some more shots the first three are no flash or external light (still suck at night shots), and the last pic is a quick shot of the rear brackets installed. I need to finish cleaning the underneath of the box and get someone to help me get some better night shots and I will post some more pics....
