Default VIP-style underbody entry lights(D.I.Y.S. install write up)

First off I want to give all credit to Max2k. I got the idea from him and he helped me in pm with all of my questions.

This is the VIP-style entry lighting. I have decided to wire it to a switch, Max has his wired to the open door lights.

You will need the following:

An xB
Wire stripper
Measuring Tape
screw driver/ phillips head
Drill
Sharpie, to mark your holes
Heat shrink/ lighter/ solder
10, 10mm bolt led's
You can use more or less, I got white. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...roduct=ACCENTS.

First you want to remove your Running boards, its simple but hurts your fingers after a while.
pop the two covers (front, and rear) on each of the screw covers.

They are marked from the inside, so you know where they need to go when you put them back on

Now rumove the plugs underneath. These are easy, just pry your fingers in and pull.

Next you are going to want to pull the piece up and out. There are yellow tabs holding it in. Carfull, these can snap. If any of them stay in the body, you need a pliers to pull them out.

Now, measure where you want the holes to go. I should have done them farther away from the edge, closer to the middle of the car. The reason is, it is flatter there and they will shine straight.

Now, drill your holes.
Then thread the led through the hole, wires first....Remember to take the nut off first lol...cause I forgot to several times.

Splice them and wire it up, I ran my lead wires in through the front wheel well.

Put it all back together, its real easy to snap all the pieces back in.

Get a switch from Radio shack, and extra wires, a resister if you want. Im going to finish it tonight, more pics to follow for the finished product. This should take you no more then 3 hours.
Now celebrate.

Also, with a little effort you can hide all the wires.

Things to remember when doing this project:

1. You need need need to space the LEDs correctly. It looks bad if you don't.

2. Wires can be run up behind the plastic thing in the wheel well and into the engine bay through holes in the strut tower or through the rubber body plug in the car's undercarriage.

I think the light coming through the trees makes it look like a camoflaged xB.

I think you could use a few more question marks and exclamation's in there. I'm not sure I understood without them.

Good write up! I also love the photo with the sunset shining
through the chain link fence. Though it looks like one of your
lights died or you need one more at the end!

what about getting the LEDS in amber and installing amber running lights above the doors (unsure if they're called running lights... like the ones on hummers or 18 wheelers)...

nice work dude, thats tight
