what speakers fit???
ok some sites say 6.5 front and rear some sites say 51/4 front and 4 in rear
this is all to complicated who out there has used what and what brand and sounds good with the stock h/u :? |
I went with MB Quart Reference 6 1/2 with crossovers in the front & left the rear stock, didnt change them out. I think you can fit either a 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 in the rear. But you definatelt can fit bigger tweeters on the top of the dash if you wanted to. Hope this helps.

There was a thread on this a little while ago.
I'm 99% sure that several people stated the rears are 5 1/4". Honestly, put your money into really good seperates up front, with the 6 1/2" in the door, and tweets up on the dash. Then have your installed put big caps on the *stock* rear speakers to roll off the bass (they can't handle--which will be more apparent once you get good speakers up front). With the money you save from *not* putting new speakers in the rear, put that towards an amp or sub or better head unit or something. The rear are just rear fill, and shouldn't be worried about. |
That is what I am doing ... I am getting 6 1/2 component speakers for the front and leaving the rear alone. The money I save will go to the new AVIC-D1 head unit.

i have JL VR-650CSi components up front and nothing in the back......but even sitting in back you can't hear the rear speakers.........my mids and highs are blazing loud without being harsh.......i like them very much....
|
do you guys think it sounds funny if you have aftermarkets in front, stock in the back, and say a couple of 12's bumping in the trunk? is that too much bass? with a stock deck?
|
Where are people mounting the components?
Where are people mounting the components? ie: the 1.5" speaker
In the factory fitted spots? |
when you take the door panel off, you see the metal bracket that holds the tweeter in it's spot. I took that bracket asm. off and surface mounted the tweeter there.....so it still looks factory.....except for my crossovers on my doors....
|
cool cool.. so is there plenty of room to actually mount the cross over units inside the door? do you have a pic of your install. thx!

where to mount amplifiers in an xB?
I'm ready to install my system, but I was debating whether i should install my amp under the rear seat, or in the storage compartment in the trunk.....where are you guys putting your amps?
 how easy is it to take out and put back the rear seat? pics would be great!!!! |
Is there space under the rear seat for an amp? I would generally think you would want *some* air flow around the amp, especially if it has a fan on it?

 how easy is it to take out and put back the rear seat? pics would be great!!!! My amp is in the right side storage compartment in the back. Fits well, and all I did was do some cutting on the styrofoam and it just sits there, without complaints. I'll be putting in some fans and will have to cut a couple of holes in the cover for ventilation this summer. |
i was just thinking since the box is open, there would be enought air passing through under the rear seats....
|
i.c., so i guess that compartment is the only place to put an amp.
|
pretty much......my amps are mounted to a rack behind my rear seats.......and the crossovers are on the visible side of the door panel......
|
any pics available?
|
not yet....sorry....I'll try to get some or something....
