Default where to wire cathodes in tC hatch..

im about to pick up some 4" cathodes from Oznium.com and was wondering where is the best place to wire them too?

I was thinking of using one of the power wires right behind one of the tail lights but I didn't know which one to use. I would like it to be a constant power source which turns on with a switch.

I also might consider hooking it up to the light thats already back their but I have no idea how I would go about doing that.

Any help appreciated.

Pop out the rear hatch lamp housing, and tap into the wires in there.

I have LED's mounted in the plastic strip that goes across the edge ofthe hatch shelf.

Open the hatch and on they come, close and off they go.

Limey, I am very interested in what you did.

Would you care to elaborate on how you wired the leds to just make them turn on and off with the hatch opening and closing.

Also is the lamp housing what you used as a power source. And is it really that easy to take it out? Did you have to ground separately or did the lamp housing have both a red and black wire.

All your help is appreciated. Pics would be great too but not necessary. Thx.

dead easy to take out, it just pops out from what I remember.

yes it has live and ground.

I was happy to add the LED's straight to that becuase they won't add much to the ampage on that circuit.

Cathodes, is a different story as I believe they pull muchos amps.

If I were using cathodes, i'd just use that power to switch a relay that had it's own power source.

At some point I'm re doing my LED's, but I'll need a new plastic piece, ken at sparks has one at a great price, it's just not a priority right now. maybe in next month. I'm redoing because I used LED bars and I drilled one of them slightly at an angle, hardly noticable, but it bugs me.

I'm planning on doing the same thing.
Could I see a pic of where you mounted the LED's to.
Thanks

Don't have one to hand, but when you open the hatch look down at the plastic piece that runs across the bottom back edge (the metal hook for the latch is in the middle).

Pry that off, and mount by drilling holes the size of the led and pushing them through. Solder everything together, run wires up the inside of the sides of the hatch to the 'real' hatch light, and tclap them to the appropriate wires.

Bingo

You'll be fine tapping in a few cathode kits to the stock wiring. They don't draw that much! If it is just 1 or 2 kits, dont worry.

hey oznium whats up, i was going to put three 4 inchers (6.49) in the hatch and then four 12 inchers (6.49) in the interior ( 2 under front dash and 2 under seats).

You think I would still be able to tap all of em? The four would be tapped to one source and then the three in the back to another source.

I don't mind using a relay at all, if someone could just point me to the one I should get and use. (Preferably from Radioshack).

I've got some relays I can give you for a couple bucks.

You'd then need to run a fused wire from the battery to the relay.

You could use a switched power source such as the cig lighter to activate the relay.

It seems easier if you tapped into the fuse box under the dash. There are some empty slots that only get power when the key is in.

I explain this in detail in a post here: http://www.oznium.com/forum/topic7550#119437

The transformer pulls about .5 amps to .7 amps

oznium that was an awesome right up which will help me greatly.

one question for anyone is, is their a specific fuse that turns on specifically when the parking lights turn on? i would like the cathodes to light up whenever i have my parking lights turn on.

oznium could you hold a couple of those relays for me. i'll get back to you in a day or two so we can work something out.
