Most of the bass comes out of the front speakers in the doors - do you usually play it really loud? You may have blown out the speaker cones.
What setting do you have on the tuning for car type? And how about the bass boost (Normal - Hear - Feel). Did the doors get wet where the speakers are mounted or bent and hit?

Default xb 2006 stock radio distortion

Thanks for writing. Doors havent gotten wet or hit. Right after I bought it I went on a weekend camping trip and turned the radio up high on the freeway because all the speakers except drivers door had gear packed around. After that I noticed distortion in all 6 speakers. I thought of pulling one of the rear speakers and hooking it to another source, but it isnt easy so while Ive looked at it I havent removed it. I now have to run it on normal or it buzzes at all volume levels. Frustating-I have a 14 year old corolla that Ive camped with for 10 years and the sound ysytem is like the day I bought it. I just need to determine if the speakers (all of them) or the radio is at fault. I know aa guy who installs radios at best buy who says years ago speakers lasted and now it is common to replace them at 2-3 years.I guess they put cheap ones in and expect you to replace them with premium ones. -Ray

If you were cranking them up in the 30-40 (45 is max) volume level you probably blew out the cones. The head unit is rated at 160 watts output so there is plenty of power there to do some damage to the speakers and if they were blocked off then that loads the speakers down even more and causes more damage. Try the fade control and left right balance to test one speaker at a time. Also check the dash speakers since they are right on top and can get junk inside the them that could cause buzzing noise. They may be the easiest speakers to reach if you want to connect other speakers to the head unit.
