Okay, I took the 3rd brake light off of the window to tint it, just took it loose, did not undo any wires or anything, now it does not come on and when I press on the brake with the ignition on, not running, I hear a click under the shifter. Any ideas?

I already checked the bulb and it is not burned out.

 

Did you check the fuse?

 

no, not yet. Why would the fuse blow befor the bulb? I'll check that in a few.

Maybe you pulled too hard on the wires and something broke. There is a connector which plugs into the lightbulb socket. Maybe that loosened.

IIRC, the stop lights in the taillights and the 3rd brake light are all on the same fuse. Do the taillight's stop lights work ok?

The click you're hearing is the gear shifter interlock solenoid which only allows you to shift out of Park when the brake is depressed. Assuming that yours is an automatic.

 

yep, its an auto. the brake lights work fine, this only affects the 3rd brake light.

 

Keith, bring it to TOL and we'll take a look at it.

 

I just got in from MO last night and as I was pulling into the garage I noticed it is working now. Hm. Oh well, I'll keep an eye on it.
