sweet. So that PSU is the one in that pic with the 3 wires coming out? Did you wire it into the fuse panel? So every time you start your car, u hit the switch to power on the computer? Then once it starts up(windows) u run the front-end?

Also that PSU, it has the standard connectors comin out of it right? like the big connector for the mobo, and the 4 hole connectors for drives? thanks

Edit: Nevermind, see them in the pics, so theres a lot of room behind the console with the stock Head Unit removed? you didn't remove any other stuff?

FWIW, readers of this post will find a good number of people on mp3car.com who use inverters and are very happy with them.

prof-xb, your setup looks sweet. Very clean.

Thanks for answering questions, I appreciate it =)
Definately helping me in making an informed decision about installing something like this.. I'm either going to keep my Kenwood DDX7015, or sell it for a mac mini, touch screen and a new CD HU.. Still have some thinking left to do on it.

i start car and hit no buttons , the psu brings the computer back from suspend and music plays with a display on in only three seconds or so (if you use an inverter this will not work out, you will becoming to windows from a cold boot every time you start your car 2 min instead of three seconds, this is only one draw back of a inverter, there are many more)

makes sense man, i was looking at those start up controllers on that site, which one do you have? It goes between your PSU and mobo right? The PSU gets power as soon as you turn the key then tells the startup controller to un-suspend? that's awesome man! You use the usb to upload songs etc? Or transfer wirelessly from home?

You just use the HU for an equalizer? You could hook this up to a stock 06 HU right? It has aux in i heard...

i use the stock hu more like an amp , and as also a back up sorce for tunes if the pc wacks out for some reason or another , as far as the psu , it is a opus 150 watt 12 input, no need for a start up controller, it is built in the opus wifi is used for what you said and also enables this to be a wifi hackers dream car has gps nav too...

SWEET that is what i wanted to hear! the opus has it built in! Thats another 90$ saved! Do you program the opus to do what yours does in windows, or is it ALWAYS like that? (where it suspends when you turn the car off etc.)

Thanks!!

sweet, so what do i set in windows to make it suspend like that? Do i do it via drivers that comes with the OPUS?

I should be getting my xB soon sooon soon, and i'm going to start collecting my parts for this. I'm going to do a setup similar to yours. I posted up over on the EF forums if u want to see:

So glad i found your post and learned some stuff about all this, gonna be pimp once i get my xB and have this setup :D

BTW, what HU do you suggest me to get? And how did you get the sound from your comp to your HU? (what converters etc. did you use)? Should i buy a sound card for my setup or use the on-board?

suspend with windows, that is how i am doing with xp pro , as far as sound out to the hu i am just using a mini jack into y type rca cable(2 ch stereo) , you can go the 5.1 way , but i didnt need or want that , kind of using head as an amp , i have a eclipse 5442 for a head(not a current model but a high end head) it is very powerful for just hu power and the way the aux in is configured on it , i never need to mess with the head unit volume, it is all done via pc , cant really suggest one other than the one i have , but you for sure need a hu with a aux in ability IMO...

yep, the HU you have looks cool. Everytime you turn on your car the HU stays in aux mode right? So as soon as your puter boots up it starts to play? Just like a CD player?

Everytime you turn off your car you manualy suspend your computer? Or does the PSU tell the windows it's time to suspend? I guess that once the PSU gets power (when you turn on the car) it boots the computer up? Thats awesome

Hey all-- Here's a buddy of mine in our car club with another sweet carputer set up.
http://webpages.charter.net/cookscastle/pictures.html
He has a complete parts list on the site as well as pictures step-by-step of his install. I have seen it in person a number of times and it is the truth! He connected his audio directly to his amp; he has no head unit at all. It sounds just as good. This is my winter project, and I am enlisting his help with it! The xB has more space to work with than most cars, so it is easy to run most any car pc set up in there.

great setup. Hope it doesn't overheat in the summer with all the stuff like that in a crammed space. Do you have plans on navi? If so how are you going.

How much would it cost for me to get the screens front plate glassed into the dash piece? Like if i found a shop, and brought them the 2 pieces? Do shops even do this?
