Default xB Racing Seat Install Question....????

I have a set of racing seats on the way and I wanted to get an idea how difficult the install is gonna be before I actually tackle it. I also ordered xB specific brackets so the brackets wont be an issue. My real question is, will I have an issue with the airbag warning light being on all the time? If I disconnect the battery before I unplug the sensor harnesses will that avoid having to get my airbag sensor reset? If there is anything else I should know about the install besides the airbag issue let me know....

Thanks!!

Yeah I believe you will trip the airbag sensors at the very least because the sensors are worked into the factory seats. So you will lose the whole 2 stage deployment thing. The passenger seats also has the weight sensor which activates the passenger side airbag. So doing this will essentially cancel a large safety feature of the vehicle. Hell i'm all for it, but if this is a dealership vehicle I don't think you can do it, unless it was a used car.

I could be wrong, but considering that my box is under major reconstruction, these are some of the issues I have had to tackle.

Yeah its not a dealership vehicle. Its my personal xB so I dont give a crap about safety. I knew I would lose all the sensors in the seats and frankly I dont care about them. I just dont wanna drive around staring at an airbag light on my dash. Any advice on how to avoid that happening would be appreciated...

Dude I'm liking the way you think more and more everyday, I really hope you can come down here to Florida. Anyway, yes they are ways to bypass the lights with wiring. Worse case scenario, its real easy to cover the LED from inside the console. As low tech as that sounds it worked for me ..lol

GL and PM me with pics of the seats, because I have some killer looking Ractive Racing seats that I can get you a real good deal on if you haven't already committed to a set.

Yeah I already ordered the seats. I think I will like them when they get here. Damn waiting for shipping. I hate that. Im still thinkin about those grills from you if you still got'em lying around. I put on an ABS Dynamics front lip and now I cant use the stock lower grill which sucks. I'll catch you later man...

Im pretty sure the airbags wont go off once you disconnect the sensors in the seats. I could be wrong about that one if somebody else with more definative knowledge wants to chime in.... Ivan???

I think the airbags will deploy, drivers side will seploy at full force no matter what the distance, its the passenger one that may not work since it is dependant on the seat sensor. I am sure however there has to be a way to trick it to remain active at all times, but again you will not have control of the force of deployment. IMO ... next to chime in ?

Anything is possible and I think he's right about the driver side still going off but the passenger not deploying. Im sure you could remove the sensor and put a clamp on it to make it think theres weight on it....

My friend I hate airbags ... I feel they do more harm than good personally. My suggestion is, change your seats, change your steering wheel, remove the passenger side airbag and replace it with a TV, a gaming console, hell a subwoofer and enjoy the benefits of a custom ride. Upgrade your seatbealt to harnesses like the racing seats are designed for and I honestly feel you will be safer in that than you stock vehicle.

I agree man. Now I just have to find a freakin harness bar for this thing... Any suggestions besides making one?

The steering wheel and the passenger airbag are definately getting removed and sold for lots of money!!!

None that I know of, atm all the ones I have seen have been custom made. I have someone who will make one, but I am sure you have welders up there that can do an equally good job.

Let me know otherwise.

Whats your guy charging for one? I know I can get one for about $400 from somewhere but I dont think its worth that much if you ask me. Unless I can sell my useless airbags for the same amount a harness bar will cost...

It will probably be in that ball park, because while he will not warranty the work, it is done in the same materials that are approved for SCCA racing, which is what he does. I'll ask him tonight..

Tonight when I get home from work I will send you the pics I have of his bar so you can see what it looks like. I will also let you know if he has the time to make it for you.

I just took my racing seats back out. #1 they're extremely uncomfortable on long trips, #2 that passenger airbag light gets annoying, #3 the side bolsters don't feel that great when you land on them by accident, and #4 I didn't like the way the seat and bracket combination dropped me down so much lower than stock. But overall the install took me about 45 minutes by myself and some basic tools.

Im not concerned about the comfort. I knew they wouldnt be comfortable. That wasnt the point of installing them. I will simply cover the airbag light from behind the dash so that wont be an issue really. Are you selling your seats and if you are what color/brand are they???
