Default XM Satellite Radio Question HELP ME!!!

Ok, I know you guys know this. I am trying to find out if I can get a XM system from Best Buy without buying the GROSSLY overpriced Scion system? Is the sat ready stereo (not the 6 disc changer) able to accept a Best Buy or Circuit City XM setup? Do you know which adapter they use? The zit faced kids at my best buy had no clue, but were more than WILLING to rip my dash open and "see what it looks like". I declined that invitation. But, I know there is one of you guys out there who knows.

You guys have been great about knowing everything there is to know, I appreciate it.

Default xm radio

here it is there are sevral options the toyota tuner unit price has dropped allmost
in half the aftermarket is working on adapter that will use the factory radio as a
controller the mfgr of this item is blitzsafe (sorry i dont have the web link) they told
me they will have this device by december to work with the scion radio and the
universall xm tuner and adapter or you can get one of those units that use fm
modulation but they have bad sound quality for me i like the clean install of being able
to use the radio as a controller but it is your budget that will decide the way to go [/img]

I'm interested too. I'm going to buy an aftermaket unit (I must have a dial for volume, not stupid buttons). I'm also thinking of XM radio, so I'm interested in options. I'll probable install myself since the xB is so easy to work on. Anybody care to comment that has installed XM radio?

i have installed factory xm in all scion models if you can install a cd changer or radio
the xm system factory or aftermarket will be easy for you do it yourself save$$$
also the system prices have dropped if you can wait for the aftermarket to release
the necc adapters or buy the factory system (it may be comp priced) i myself did
not buy the overpriced factory system when i got my box but now i with the recent price drop alot more units will be sold if your dealer quotes you the old price move on
do not buy call another dealer or wait for the aftermarket stuff

you cannot hook up an aftermarket dedicated XM system to your factory unit. the only way is to go with an add-on unit with an FM modulator. while the equipment you would buy from the dealership is probably very similar to what you could buy at best buy, the the connection in the back of the factory deck is a special plug. it's similar to trying to hook up a CD changer. you can't just go out and buy a JVC CD changer and expect it to plug right up into the factory deck without some type of adapter. there is no adapter (yet) to allow you to hook up the universal XM tuner to the factory deck. the best way would be to get rid of that crappy factory deck and put an aftermarket one in and then get the universal tuner with adapter. (tuner is made by terk, adapter is made by blitzsafe... both sold to work together)

oh yeah, i'm a zit-faced kid that works at best buy, but i know because i have an xB too. im also one of the installers at my store.

Default XM Radio Hookup

Just to clarify, You can buy the aftermarket Pioneer XM Tuner and it plugs into the back of the OEM Pioneer/Scion headunit, and it works?

Now you have me confused. I don't have my Tc yet, it is due in in 2 weeks. I'm trying to figure all this stuff out ahead of time. Are the connectors the same, or not? Have you done this install or is it just hypothetical? Please be helpful and honest.

the aftermarket pioneer xm receiver will not be able to plugged in w/o an adapter (the blitzsafe one that everyone's talking about that's not out yet) into the stock headunit.

So it works with the stock HU? That would be great!

any followup to blitzsafe? gf got me a roady2 xm for christmas, and not really that thrilled about the FM modulator... have read that there's the PIE thing that can work with the cd changer aspect, but the thought of using the stock HU controls make me giddy. Understand that the cost of XM unit+adaptor is approaching the cost of Scion XM tuner, but since it was a gift I'm not going to return it. Thoughts? If I can't get something to control it through the HU, I'll probably throw it somewhere up on the dash and get the remote for it. Anything's better than holding it in my lap and looking down to change the channel.
