Default Yet more xm questions

I was just wondering if the xm antenna(the one made for the stock HU) has to be mounted on the roof. Is there any other place you can put it on.

Also, what exactly is that adapter that I have seen sold for about 70 to 80 bucks that you hook up to the cd player plug to get rca jacks.? I can't find the link fo this but it has been mentioned on these forums.
Is this what you buy to use the xm direct line, where you just buy and adapter and antenna? http://www.xmradio.com/xm_direct/

if you just need rca you can do a search for PIE or USASpec products... with the stock HU, you need either the PIE toy03-aux (run the search for toy03 and it'll turn up) or the USA Spec DF-toy..

two places i know sell them are

and

the XM direct line is not compatible with our head unit. If you want in car XM you have to get one that has an externl controler. SkyFi, Roady2,(both portable) or XM commander(car use only)

As far as the antenna goes it can be mounted anywhere I've seen it on the roof, on the A pillar, and am told under the dash hell i have have mine in my arm rest(not the best reception but it gets me by) , but the one from the stock HU is HUGE terk makes one and i belive it ships with most of the XM units that is only about the size of a Quarter.

Are the Skyfi2 and Roady2 only used through fm? If it does, isn't reception pretty crappy? It seems that buying these and the necessary adaptors comes out to the same price as just buying the stock xm. I know you can order the stock one online for just under 292 shipped.

Also, is the stock xm antenna interchangable with a smaller one? I was originally, thinking of leaving the antenna on the dash, right next to the windshield, would this be a good idea?

Well got my questions answered at Circuit city, but I forgot to ask about antenna placement in other places other than the roof.

Also do any of you know if the tuner cover is really necessary and if it why the hell are they sold serparatley?

usually you want the antenna on the roof. this is what I normally tell my customers. alot of people do mount them on the dash like I did on my tC(cause it was my last resort...didn't like where the dealer puts em) also I read somewhere that some people also mounted them inside the headliner without any major problems.

hope this helps,

Thanks, that does help. I actually was thinking of putting it in the headliner, but was afraid of losing reception. But since people say there is no problem....now I just have to try to get one.
