Your Opinions on Car Alarms
I drive a 5-speed xA, and I would like to know your opinions about these alarms:
Viper (Python, Hornet, Clifford)
vs
Compustar
I want to remote start my manual. Are both of these equally able of this?
In comparing them, what are the differences in performance?
Initial cost?
Installation cost?
I want to buy the best for my car. Share your opinions here!

Remote starters on manuals could be problematic:
a friend went to pick up his MR2 a few years ago from the body shop, they'd just finished painting his whole car with new body kit a really nice silver. He walks out to get in the car, hits his remote start, and the car lurches forward into the wall. They left it in 1st gear, which a lot of people do when parking a manual, but he didn't know that. He had to get a new front bumper. Luckily he was already at the right place to get it fixed...

I noticed that people leave it in gear, and I've never been able to do that. mom irritates me to that with no end with her Neon. I usually just put it in N and throw the parking brake.
Okay, after futher investigation, I've determined that the Compustar 2W900FM-AS is the winner. I couldn't justify the price difference from the next higher up version, so I went with this for about $200 shipped on eBay.
I'll let you know how it goes!

LOL....you're braver (is that a word?) than I am. I can do basic electric stuff to cars and houses, but I had a stereo shop instal my keyless entry. I didn't want the doors unlocking everytime I changed the station on the stereo.

Beer? I thought you were straight-edge! (I am, too)
Did you finally get that car? I've been looking at the 'future car' for some time now. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
The only reason I'm not considering the padlock idea is, though effective, it put those little curved scratches on the paint where the lock rubs. Otherwise, A+.
