Default Best coilovers for comfort?

I wanna get a 2.5-3" drop - just for looks not racing - so I'm hoping for as smooth a ride as possible. This is my daily driver, and I drive from Sacramento to the Bay Area at least once a week. I'm on Goldlines right now which are pretty smooth already, but is it possible to get a smoother ride while still going lower?

It would be really cool if anyone can describe their own experience comparing one coilover setup with another coilover/spring setup. :D Thanks!

(whoops sorry, meant to put this under Corner Carvers)

my buddy(JDMXB) has the tein wagon dampers..
i LOVE the ride on them things. i think u might even be able
to pick them up from him! i remembered he was trying to sell them on
classifieds.. those dampers are only available in the japanese market...
but i guess he imported a set.. they ride MUCH nicer/smoother than stock.
and a hell of a lot smoother than my tein basics.

but if u're serious,,,, he still has them! it hink he put very few miles on them..
hes probably been though 1 oilchange if even that since he had them on,

Rico, I'll give you a ride in my xB next time I see you. I have the TEIN Wagon coilovers.

i have the cusco zero wagons dropped a little bit over 3" and it's not a nice ride. When i first installed them I had it dropped about 2 1/2" and it was a totally different story, they rode really really smooth. felt like a totally different car. I was really stoke on them until i dropped it lower. but i hate fender gap and damn it looks good, so i'll live with it. Ive also been thinkin about swapping them out for the HKS' but we'll have to see about that.

brad: Thanks, I'll take you up on that offer! While driving behind you on the way to Golfland, I could already see that it looks smoother or maybe it was just because Carlos was bouncing around next to you

ryan: Thanks for that info. What have you heard about HKS? BTW, your wheels look badass

joey: Oh man, I'd like to grab those Tein Wagons, but I wasn't planning on buying anything for a few months. I'm still working on new tires, spacer shims, and fender rolling. So far, though, it looks like I'm leaning towards the Tein Wagons, so I'll keep that in mind!

BTW, what wheel/tire setup did JDMXB have? I looked at squirrels 17x7 +40 (?) buddy clubs on 215/40 just barely tucked under the fender - looked really good. I have 17x8+25 205/40 all around, and I was wondering how much work it would take to fit 215/40 or 205/45 under the Tein Wagons at its lowest.

Hey Rico, JDMXB is running Work, 17x8 and 17x9 I don't know what tire size but you should get the 205-45 next time, with 8" you not going to have that much problem with rubbing so I think that would be your best bet , with those tires you might not even need coil over since you just want them for look, You might want ask Joey too, he is running 18x8 in rear so he can give you more info about rubbing issues but you have one size smaller wheels !!! what brand of tires are you looking to get ??
By the way, are you rubbing right now ??
Take care

Look at my gap! If I am going to buy new struts eventually, I might as well go a little lower and get a smoother ride at the same time! :D

That is why I wanna get tires first before the coilovers. I am not rubbing at all right now - I am right at the threshold before rubbing the rear passenger side. I would definitely rub if I had 215/40/17. When I get new tires, I might as well space out the rears and roll my fenders at the same time.

Take a look at this pic, tell me what you think.

jdmxb is running 17x8 17x9 at a 25 or 20 offset(i forgot)..
he is rolling on trampath's.. 205/45 i think.
they're nicely stretched but even at that rubbing is still an issue!
u gotta roll ur fenders and what not..

im sitting on 8" wide in rear.. i worked for a LONG time on my car
to get it to be rubbing free at a 3" drop =)

Rico, Its pretty smooth, and just not because Carlos was bouncing everywhere. Ask Sean, I gave him a ride at Elk Grove. The rims I have are 17x7.5 w/ 42 offset w/215/40 Neo Gens. I had to run a 3 mm spacer in the rear also.

Hey Rico,

I'll post up some pics of my ride. I have the Tein Basics and I'm rolling on the same size & offset wheel as you. Should have some up today or tomorrow. As for comfort, I like this a lot more than either my RSR or Goldline springs.

stan,

i have HKS HYPERMAX C-COMPACT coilovers...and i would say comfort wise...no doubt about it...go with TEIN WAGON OR BASIC. matter of fact, we were able to get danny's wife in brads car for a test ride...and after the ride...danny had him a set of Tein Coilovers...this is before he got all..."Sluricane" on us...

i'm just an idiot and prefer my DROP, to comfort... :?

They work great and ride good. The only problem is that Buddy Club won't really bring them in (beacause it's a special order item and not commonly sold). So warranty would be an issue.

My suggestion, Tein. Best bang for the buck.

try the Blitz wagon coilovers. Engineered by SACHS, a german company. Nice ride and you could slam it. I have them on my car and it rides better than stock. It is not only smooth, but corners good.

Rico, Na'im is not an idiot. He wanted to be lower than any of us, well excpet maybe Ken. Those two are the lowest I've seen w/o air. Steve's BC coilovers are nice, but are extremely hard to come by. Even w/ my fat butt in the back seat, Steve didn't rub at all. Just don't ask him about the flat tire when I was riding in the back.
