Oh man I bottomed out SOOO bad the other day. I had 4 people (including myself) in my lowered xA (approx 1.5" + 1" smaller tires).
i weight 160, my dad is well into 200 something, my sister, and my friend who is literally 450lbs+ (just barely fit in the car)
We were going to a baseball game... and while driving over the car counter thingy (the bar that you drive over) I SLAMMED the base of it which was about 1" tall. It dragged under my car for a good 10 feet. lol... from now on, im not hauling the fatties.

The cheapest thing and most affective thing to do would be to get taller tires. Stock tires are 185-60 i believe? So upgrade to 185-65 or 185-70.

A lot cheaper than full air suspension, even if you go all-out with an electric compressor and solenoid valve fill & dump...

hmm...i think a good spring/shock combo is in order..

i do the same thing! its funny to see how slow the car goes when you have a 250lb, 220lb, 160lb, and a 230lb(me) dude in the car..

I have had me(230lbs), one friend (200lbs) in the front and a huge friend (375lbs) and the poor little car was not very happy. Then again i have had 17 bags of 40lbs topsoil in the back so i guess i have pushed the limit and lived. I wont do either of those again now that i know the weight limit...

i had 1200 lbs. in mine last week for a 2 hr. trip on stock springs and aftermarket 17" wheels. (440,315,215,205) felt a little nervous but we mad it home alright.

Mine (stock suspension, slightly larger, heavier-duty tires on 15s) has often had loads in the 600 pound range, and once (concrete blocks) in the 800 pound range and has been happy.

I wouldn't push it much over that, though, as that gets out of the 'safe' range of the VSC, TRAC, and ABS systems, as well as getting toward overstressing the suspension and stock tires, especially when traversing rough surfaces, speed bumps, etc.

Try to stay within the limits. Yes, with caution the box can carry more than it's rated load, but it starts to get too easy to break something...

it's pretty funny to a point, but definitely get taller tires or bigger wheels to compensate if they ride around in the box a lot. however, it may come to a point where it's better for them to try to shed a few pounds, if not for the car's ride, but for themselves. you've probably already told them this, but it's all in good intention.

maybe get some air ride.
