Default Flipping the hats?

So I was looking at a thread somewhere and somebody was talking about getting a little more drop out of their coilover suspension and said they were going to flip the hats to get about another inch or so.

does anybody know what this means or how to do it, I have about 1 more inch to go in the front to get where I want to be stance wise.

please somebody tell me what this means lol

Since I haven't actually seen the exact coil over in question I don't know for sure.
What I would say they are referring to is the upper spring seat. I would think the bottom one can't be flipped, and if it was it wouldn't make a difference. But the top one might have some what of a cup shape, downward. If the spring would still line up and stay center on this part upside down. Then with the coil over uninstalled the top nut on the strut shaft could be taken off. Then the upper spring seat or "top hat" could be flipped upside down from the normal orientation. Now where the spring makes contact would be a little higher than it was before in relation to the bottom spring perch or seat.

This would add more drop if the bottom perch was all the way down on the threaded portion of the coil over and one wanted to increase the distance between the upper and lower spring mounting points.

Is this safe? One would have to try it and use there best judgment. If the spring sits well and looks like it will stay centered, then go for it. Play at your own risk!

It's mounting the top hats above the strut tower. See here:

Nice! I'm almost done bagging mine, and am considering it. So do you put a backing plate or anything on the underside of the strut tower for the bolts?

I did using the factory plates that come on top of the tower originally. I would suggest doing that so you dont pull the bolts through the tower.

Nice. I got rid of mine since my strut bar has them. but i can make some. Just finished my install tonight, I think this is in the future. The front needs to come down more.
