Default Monroe Sensatrac 5870

If anyone is wanting to smooth out their lowered ride, The monroe 5870's are on sale at Advanced Auto this month. Only $44 for a pair of them. (This is for the rear for those that dont know).

Er, the 5870 is the Sensatrac shock that is being used by some folks for lowered vehicles, the 5987 is the Sensatrac that directly replaces the OEM shock for a somewhat smoother ride.

The 5870 is not a direct replacement.

Aren't the spring perches on the 5870's a half inch lower that the 5987's?

These are REAR shocks - no perches. The perches in the rear are a part of the suspension.

The Sensatrac front struts for the Echo sedan do lower the front of an xB about 1/2 inch because the spring perches on the struts for the Echo are mounted lower than those for the xB.

I recently purchased a pair of the 5870's. Mine came with 2 different thread pitches and I managed to strip one of them during installation. Monroe was kind enough to replace it, but be sure to check that the threads are correct for the included nuts before installing them. Both nuts were coarse threaded and one shock was fine threaded. It was odd, but worked out in the end

* Bumper Stop Unit. Dimension shown at Bumper Contact.

AND Monroe has finally listed shocks and struts for the xB! (Available later this year.):

I have a query in with Monroe about differences in the specifications between the 5987 and 5601 rear shocks. I'm very sure the new front struts will NOT lower the front of the xB as the Echo struts being used do now.

on the subject of Monroes - I just had mine installed today (on a Sunday!) at a reputable local shop: $240 for two rear 5987s (installed) along with installation of a Progress rear sway bar. i only drove 3 miles home in slow traffic, so it was hard to tell if there was a difference. i'll find out more tomorrow.

my question is this - when i got home, i noticed the shop didn't send me on my way with my old (3,500 miles) oem shocks. should i go back tomorrow and get 'em? are they worth anything?
